Any experiences on cetrotide?

Hey ladies,

Sorry, I'm a serial poster this week as I'm googling stuff and it's really not helping!

Was wondering if anyone here has any experiences of cetrotide? I had my first jab this morning, thank goodness DH is so experienced with needles/mixing vials as it was emotional haha!

The instructions say to draw up a bit first when you've got the needle sticking in you, and if there's blood to abandon the shot and try again- and though there was no blood in the shot when DH did this, there was a fair bit when he took the needle out, and then I got a little pea sized lump at the injection site which went away after about half an hour and a bit of massaging- was really stingy though! Was wondering if that was normal, or if from where I'm already doing gonal-f that the area is a bit over-stabbed and just a bit sensitive and is to be expected?

Anyone's previous experiences helpful!

PS- also, I'm a total mess- I'm literally walking around with the feeling that I have when I'm on a night out and you go to the ladies and someone tells you they think you're pretty and you're immediately bffs and tear up (except minus the drunk part obv!). I've cried about 3 times this morning and it's not even lunch! I never cry- ever, so I think everyone at work must think I'm mad!

I used cetrotide with no probs but my instructions never said to draw up a bit once it’s stuck in (that I saw anyway!). It was very stingy and itchy though, which the nurse said was normal - so wouldn’t worry too much about that bit.

Same here. And yes, they are a bit stingy xx

Thanks both for the reassurance- I checked with the clinic at my scan yesterday and they said that the manufacturers instructions were rubbish and as it's subcutenaceous that you shouldn't have to draw up, as that's just for injections that have a deep needle to ensure you don't hit a major vessel.

This mornings episode of 'naked and baffled in the bathroom' went a lot smoother lol! Hope you are both doing okay xxxx

I will be using cetrotide this cycle so can’t comment yet.

I totally understand that you feel emotional, it is such a tough process. My colleague who I really like and who knows my struggles told me yesterday that she is 8 weeks pregnant after 2 unprotected intercourses. And she is 39! She felt terrible to tell me and we both cried in the kitchen at work! I haven’t even started injecting and feeling fragile already so just be kind to yourself xx

Sorry that sounds so difficult. Hope that you get your BFP soon x

Aw no, that sounds rubbish. I think sometimes acknowledging the elephant in the room in these situations really helps- I used to be a wreck at work, as my colleagues are all about the same age as me and there seems to be a pregnancy epidemic happening, not easy when you're sat there like 'pick me!!!' , so I can empathise. Hope that your colleagues are being supportive. Bringing life into the world sure isn't as easy as we thought when we were little! I hope that you are looking after yourself- if you do end up on the cetrotide for your next cycle, I can say that on day two I think we've got the hang of it and it seems to be getting better. Thank god my DH is so experienced with needles (he's type 1 diabetic), so is able to do all this for me, I am so clumsy if I had to do it myself I reckon I'd end up with my entire weeks supply in the eye! Lots of love and hope that you have lots of positivity around you right now xxxxx

Thank you so much for your lovely reply. I must say that the situation with my pregnant colleague has shaken me up a bit. I don’t seem to be getting rid of the sadness that came upon me when I realised all over again how unfair life can be. I’m moving floors soon so I won’t be bumping into her all the time. Apart from her I only told my boss and other 2 male colleagues. I’m in technology company with 90% of men so it is quite helpful as there aren’t as many pregnancies around as it would have been in more diverse company 😁 Good luck with your injections. My husband had to break the ampoules for me last time as I just couldn’t get it right without smashing it into pieces. Best wishes xxx

Sorry I've not had it before but just wanted to say good luck. Glad that hubby is still being so helpful with the medications and hope that your emotions settle down soon. You're doing amazingly well and I'm proud of you x

Thank you sweetheart - not even ashamed to admit some of your messages have made me cry- I'm usually a robot. So maybe getting in touch with my emotions isn't such a bad thing if they're good tears :-) x

Hi there, I remember the instructions saying to draw the needle back and if blood appeared to make up another injection!

I sometimes used to get a tiny bit of blood after removing the injection and it was super stingy!

Hopefully you won’t be on them too much longer 💕 xx

I used certitide last cycle and am using it again now. They want you to draw up to check that you’re not in a vein. It’s highly unlikely where we’re jabbing, so I have to admit, I don’t bother with this bit (& I’m medically trained). It’s a big enough faff as it is!

in reply toLamorna80

Thank you! This is such a relief! :-) My clinic confirmed exactly the same thing when I went to yesterdays scan, so I think they're going to check the manufacturers material and then make their own training guides! Hope that everything is going well for you!

May not want to admit you're a medic, I might end up sending you some more messages ;-) x

I had a bit of a stingy/itchy feeling with Cetrotide straight after injecting but I just gave it a good rub and it eased off quite quickly 😊 Good luck with your cycle 💕 xxx

Hi hunny, I was fine with my menopur jab, but I bloody hated this one in the morning, so I cheated and bought some Emla cream and the clear plasters and creamed up a patch on my thigh just before bed and left it on overnight so when I did the injection at 6am my leg was numb, I’m such a big girl but it certainly stopped me stressing about it and anything that reduces stress through this journey is a bonus 😀 x x
