Anyone else struggling with Cetrotide in pulling up to see if you've hit a vein?

Hi ladies! I just started my Cetrotide yesterday and following the instructions, once the needle was fully in my belly, I tried to pull back the syringe to see if there was any blood. I couldn't seem to pull it, so I went ahead and injected. Once I pulled out the needle, blood came running out! I'm pretty sure I hit a vein, but was frustrated that I couldn't do the first bit!

When doing my second one today, I tried even harder, with no success. Luckily this time there was no blood, but worried I might be doing something wrong. Anyone else have this problem?

PS, doesn't it itch like a b****!?!

Oof, I remember how horrid those stingers were. I got it wrong in the beginning and there was some blood too but I was told not to worry. Where are you injecting? I was told to relax my posture, grab a fat roll (I had a choice of 3!) and to flick the skin, then insert the needle at a 45 degree angle. If there was resistance on the plunger when I pulled back and no blood, I was good to go. Sometimes there was a little blood when I removed the needle but I think that was damage I caused whilst pulling it out. I also forgot to remove the air bubbles once and that stung like a muther!

Have you called your nurse to check with them?

Thanks Lillilly! I'm injecting in my belly rolls (also have a couple to choose from 😂) at a 45 degree angle too. Just had no luck drawing back, so figured it must be okay.

Eeshk, air bubble stingers sound no fun! Will be extra careful to avoid that one!

Pulling back doesn’t make much sense from a medical perspective - you’re full of blood so there will always be blood! My nurses said to not pull back and just push it on in. As long as you are putting in the fatty lower belly bit you won’t go near any ‘danger’ points so it’s fine.

Also yes it can sting like a *****! Try putting an ice pack on the area for 5 mins before hand - that always stopped the stinging for me.

Thanks Sakura. I know, it doesn't make sense to me either! But figured it must be for a reason if it's part of the instructions. I mean, if they're going to send people home with a load of self-administered injections, I'm guessing that there's no real risk.

Yup that one is the worse injection I had. Would itch, sting and sometimes leave a little raised bump for a while afterwards. My nurse advised to leave the needle in for a few seconds after it had been injected as otherwise I would always get a bit of blood and some of the medication seemed to seep out. Aslong as its not loads of blood you should be fine.

I also had one instance where we couldn’t get the excess air out so ended up transferring back to the pot and using a spare needle.

I think there is a lot of leeway with these medications.

All I can say is we managed to do it right enough to get the result we wanted. Which is all that matters!

Ahh thanks! Yep - raised bump on the first one and again today, with a temporary little rash too! Fun times. Good tip though, will try that tomorrow.

Egg collection is great. You go in get naked and go to sleep. You wake up and feel high as a kite. We took a video of me afterwards and its hilarious to watch.

Our embryologist came to see us straight after collection to confirm egg numbers and also sperm quality. I feel getting that information when still meditated makes it easier to digest!

Hahaa, sounds fun! I've had my fair share of surgeries and knock outs, always an experience! Apparently there's no choice at the mo between sedation and spinal (something to do with Covid), so I'm praying for sedation, but I won't find out until the day. Spinal is no fun!

With it being a subcutaneous injection you don't need to pull back and check for blood. This is done for intramuscular injection, so injections in the buttocks, upper arm etc. Stomach is subcutaneous
