Dear Diane

I’m on Clexane and can’t take Pregnacare because it contains vitamin k, is it ok to take 500ius vitamin d3 per day and 40mg magnesium twice a day? I also take zinc and folic acid. Thank you

I was wondering about a similar thing, as I will be on Clexane but I take 2000iu vitamin d which I know acts as a thinner too x

Yes I’ve just checked and it does, might be worth asking or maybe stop the vitamin d

Thanks Orla! Scary the amount of things we stumble across. 500 is a small amount so i’ll stick with that. My haematologist said when you’re on Clexane make sure you have a blood test in the start of the 2nd trimester to ensure it’s doing what is should be doing called an anti Factor xa test 4 hrs post Clexane xx

I’m not sure if it thins the blood but just want to find out Diane’s opinion on whether it can cause embryo calcification as my blood specialist warned. It’s not a prob in the 2ww but worth looking into during pregnancy

I have been taking 1000iu per day but reduced to half after my haematologist said too much can cause embryo calcification which scared me! My ivf nurse and dr think 1000 is safe but trying to get another opinionxx

Keep to what you have been prescribed with a Clexane. Folic acid 400 mcgs a day and vitamin D 10 mcgs a day, unless otherwise instructed by specialist. Diane

1000 iu is equivalent to 25 mcg vitamin D a day. Diane

How much folic acid shall I take? I’ve always taken 5mg and still are at moment.

Thank you for raising this. I have lupus anticoagulant and didn’t realise pregnacare conception contained vitamin k?! And I’ve also been taking an extra vitamin d supplement too. So apart from folic acid what exactly should I be taking?? xx

10 mcgs of vit D daily, unless specialist advises differently. Diane

I have Factor v Leiden which was undiagnosed until I had 5 miscarriages :( it’s only from a lot of my own research I find these things out. I’m pregnant for the 7th time now with my first shot at ivf in the US and they are so thorough with pre testing and once they found out I had this gene they wouldn’t accept me until i’d seen a haematologist which gives you far more advanced assessment. It’s annoying because Clexane can affect our bone matrix and vitamin k counteracts this by protecting our bones. The good news is my haematologist confirmed we can eat vitamin k foods without worry and a magnesium supplement can protect our bones without reacting to Clexane. My nutritionist/ allergy dr always had me on zinc which is v important for fertility and our immune system. Wise Owl is an all natural, chemical free brand that’s easily absorbed and I swear by it. I also take Probiotics for the gut which also prevent water infections that can increase in pregnancy x

I’m so sorry for your losses. I have only had the lupus anticoagulant picked up after three miscarriages myself, despite presenting with other symptoms over the last few years I was never taken seriously. I was on Heparin and aspirin on my last fet but sadly that was a bfn. I avoided Vitamin K like the plague, as much as I love my greens.

Good luck with your pregnancy. I hope this one is your 🌈 baby xx

Thanks so much 😘 it’s so scary!! You’ve had a horrible time of it too but I know you’ll be successful!! Shame we had to go through so much heartache before our conditions were being treated but sometimes this is the journey we have to go on. You’re v brave having more than one endo scratch....it literally killed me but I do think it helps even though mine resulted in a chemical pregnancy. All my fingers are crossed for you!! Keep me posted xxx

Thanks Diane. I got 2 auto immune diseases (SLE and RA). Ppl with auto immune diseases most of the time got low vitamin d and mine was very low. My fertility doctor advised me to take the highest dose. And also I’m taking Azathioprine and hydroxychloroquine and always given folic acid 5mg (been on mtx also but swapped on Azathioprine 3 yrs ago as was ttc). I forgot to ask my fertility if I continue the same dose or not ☹️.

Last time vit d was check(2mths ago) was within the normal range.
