I'm 42 and single so I decided to be proactive and try and buy myself a couple more years to find a partner by freezing my eggs. I found out I have a high amh for my age (16) and thought things were looking up.
Unfortunately so far my first cycle on Bemfola 300 was cancelled after the first scan as I had 3 large follicles but the rest were far behind. I was advised to try a cycle of stronger treatment, Menopur 400 and 0.25 Buserelin. I have just had my scan on day 8 and only 1 follicle is large so I actually responded better to the Bemfola. It sounds like they don't think it's worth continuing the cycle, I have come home in tears thinking that's the end of the road for me. Due to my age I'm paying for all this myself and I don't have neverending supplies of money.
Has this happened to anyone else, is there any hope left?
Jane

I'm so sorry to hear this, whilst I haven't been in your situation I just wanted to send you some luck. Try to remain positive and visualise the outcome you want, it could happen for you! Ill keep my fingers crossed for you xx
Hi Jane, so sorry to hear this. I can relate to the stress of the expense of treatment, we have self funded four cycles. It is not easy, particularly when you feel you’re getting nowhere with it.
I had a dismal response on 450iu Gonal F but did relatively better with 450iu Menopur + 75iu Luveris. It seems some of us respond to some of the drugs better than others. Feels like a bit of a lottery at times.
Sending you lots of luck that some of those other follicles will hopefully catch up xx
I have another scan on Wednesday but I'm not holding out much hope that things will change drastically in the space of 2 days. The nurse seemed very sorry for me and it sounded like she thought there was no point in me continuing the cycle. I thought 8 days was still early days but it seems not.
Now I wish I'd continued on the Bemfola for a bit longer but they told me to stop as it would not be successful enough.
I just hope they offer me some options on Wednesday xx
I had high fsh so my nhs ivf involved the top dose of menopur. I had one follicle. They abandoned the cycle. We then switched to a private clinic and donor eggs and I’m now pregnant with twins. Sorry not great for reassurance but just wanted to show there are other ways forward. But sounds like potentially another try with the original drugs might be recommended? Or a different combination? Xx
Thanks for your comment, you're right there are other ways forward so not all possibilities are closed down yet.
I really hope they suggest something as I don't want to give up on this route just yet. Never thought I'd be single at 42 and kicking myself for not doing this earlier xx
