Post hysterectomy sleep issues

Hi, I had a radical hysterectomy 4weeks ago and knew that I'd be straight into menopause afterwards. The hot flushes I can deal with but the difficulty sleeping I just can't. It takes me about 2hours to get to sleep and I wake up at least once in the night and can't get back to sleep again 😭 I don't want to take HRT as I don't want the Endo to return and I've had issues with progesterone in the past. Any advice on natural remedies would be so welcome, I'm absolutely desperate 😢

I have had a natural menopause despite thirty plus years of endo, so I hope I can help a little. Sleep issues are common and for different reasons eg hot hot hot or just your mind racing etc. If it’s heat you can buy cool pads and pillow inserts as well as cradles for the bed to keep the covers off your skin. If it’s your brain not switching off then your Dr can help with non hormonal medication. You can also get medication for hot flushes that are non hormonal btw. As well as hot you can also randomly be freezing but nobody ever mentions the cold flashes 😂. I hope that helps x

Drinking tea might help... peppermint tea or twinnings detox tea infusion (ginger, lemon, and burdock root)... and/or take some supplements for menopause - Holland and Barrett sells plenty of good quality products. Hope these help. Goodluck

my answer may not suit you, but on such nights when I have tried all the different, well documented options, I take a prescribed relaxant as there are some nights when I am just unable to stop squiggling! On not such frantic nights, the sleep gummies from H&B work s treat.

I also have a notepad and pen next to the bed to write down the things that are driving me crazy!

Good luck with it all🍀

Good morning,

I know it’s really individual to each of us but I have had the most success with a combination of natural supplements and calming my nervous system down. I take magnesium for the sleep and it really has been a game changer. There is also a supplement called ashwaganda which has been wonderful for me. But I am petimemoupausal after surgery for endo so slightly different. I just wanted to share my experience with you incase it could be of help with hormone balance. As the sleep was so awful for me and like you I could cope with the other symptoms. Alongside the supplements I do yoga and regular meditation. As lack of sleep leads to overthinking and then that can make the hormonal sleep issues worse. So this has brought my nervous system down. It doesn’t cure the problem but it certainly helps me get much better nights.

I found it was almost a case of finding strategies to help cope with what was naturally happening and the meditation etc has really done that and the supplements just give a boost of more oppurtunity for sleep.

Warm regards 🙂

I take over the counter sleep aid from chemist, its about £6 for 20 tablets 1 a day 50mg, they just send me straight off and I now sleep through. Didn't think they'd work but I'm amazed at how well they do.
