Post-menopausal, 37 but still bleeding....hysterectomy?

Hi all, i've posted on here before but now post menopausal i'm still not having any pain and bleeding relief.

My short history- i have had endometriosis, cysts and fibroids with 5/6 operations to ease the symptoms over the last 20 years. I am now post menopause and am still suffering almost constant bleeding and terrific pain even though taking transexamic acid, mefenamic acid and the pill.

Don't want to sound soooo depressing but really need to get my life back. I've no children but have accepted that there is only a small chance of this ever happening especially as don't have a husband/boyfriend and went through the menopause last year.

I just wondered whether anyone else has had a hysterectomy (partial/full) without having children and can share their experiences. I have tried most treatments now but without success.

Thank you

Hi I'm 37 and I was diagnosed with endo last year. I'm also going through premature menopause I was devastated with the news but I have hope that one I'll have my child. I don't have any children and have been married for 5 years.

My gynaecologist put me on HRT medication so I have my periods now with medication. I couldn't accept going through such an early menopause. Iv been on the medication for 4 months now not sure how long I have to take it for. I get severe pain during my periods and have very heavy bleeding.

Hello Shaz,

Yes, I quite understand you wanting children, at the moment I just want to feel well as I'm hardly ever going to work and have such a minimal social life because of this. I'm so sorry you still seem to be suffering post menopause too, a rotten business.

Hi

I had hysterectomy and ovaries out at 42 never having had children and still find it tough to come to terms with not having children especially as I'm still in daily excruciating pain.

I didn't know much about endo before my op so didn't know it needed to be removed at same time. It wasn't which is probably why I'm in pain. I'm on list for excision so hoping that will help.

I can also recommend the hysterectomy Associations website as there's loads of ladies going through hyster for a variety of reasons and with and without children

Take care

Thanks Marcia,

It is a tough one, need to ask the specialist as many questions as I can, thanks for recommending the hysterectomy association and posted there too.

I was diagnosed at 36years old, have no children and chose to have a total pelvic clearance (uterus, cervix, tubes, ovaries and Endo adhesions removed) at the age of 38 years old. It was the best decision of my life. Having no uterus is a revelation. I take HRT for the menopausal symptoms. I still have some abdominal pain but no where near the level it was. I am still under the care of a specialist. You must be seen by a specialist and not a general gynaecologist. It's a big decision and you will know if it's the right thing for you. If you have doubts, wait, it's not the right thing or the right time. Good luck with your decision.

Thank you so much, your answer has given me hope. I really think I'm heading towards a hysterectomy as apparently post menopausal bleeding can last a few years :( but yes, time will tell.

Hello all, so sorry it has taken me so long to reply, I've been very ill this last week but getting back to the swing of things slowly.

Thank you very much for all of your help, it is reassuring that I'm not the only one going through this.

I'm seeing the consultant next week which is good as there's been a cancellation so getting all my questions ready.
