Bowel Endo?

Saw GP last week and stool results came back with very raised Calprotectin (inflammation) and Blood in stools (FIT test). I’ve now been referred on the urgent 2-week ?cancer pathway, could also be IBD with results so now waiting on an urgent colonoscopy.

Could this be bowel endo? Lots of overlapping symptoms. Also wondering if it could’ve been connected to reducing my Venlafaxine.

If anyone has had similar or bowel endo would really appreciate support.

I have recently had a colonoscopy and still waiting for results, I bleed very heavily from my bowels ( which apparently are stuck together)for about 2 weeks a month. Sometimes the blood is black, but mostly it’s bright red. It’s painful to go. My symptoms seem to follow a pattern of constipation , where I can’t go for three days, then comes the the heavy bleeding with loose stools.

Just so you know , At the same time, I have my endometriosis flare ups, in pelvis, down the front of my legs reaching my knees, lower back and the worse part, heaviness/tightness on my chest, upper back and pains in neck and shoulder tip. Everything happens at the same time.

I had a similar situation last year. I originally went to my GP who suspected endo based on my symptoms, and even though I knew I needed a referral to a gynaecologist, the GP said the referral would be rejected if we didn't rule out everything else first. So he started with the two stool tests you mentioned above. The inflammation one was negative in my case, but the FIT test came back positive. He then dropped everything and put me on the 2-week pathway for colonoscopy due to suspected colon cancer. It actually took much longer for me to get the colonoscopy for many stupid reasons that I won't bore you with.

When I eventually got the colonoscopy, it was 100% clear. Absolutely nothing wrong with my bowels whatsoever. Which I was certain would be the case, since I went to the GP with symptoms that were to do with my periods.

Since then, I've had an MRI that seems to show evidence of deep endo, including adhesions to my bowel, so in my case I think that explains any bowel symptoms I have. So it's possible that your symptoms are bowel endo. Unfortunately, a colonoscopy is unlikely to tell you that unless the endo has actually infiltrated the bowel.

Sorry you are going through this!x
