About a year before being diagnosed or having symptoms of endo, I was diagnosed with ibs, could it be endo in the bowel do we think? Is that common? I've been discharged from gyno now to try for a baby for a year so I can't ask them thanks
Ibs/endo in bowel : About a year before... - Endometriosis UK
Ibs/endo in bowel
I swear that's what's wrong with me - my surgeon confirms bowel twisting and the need for that to be addressed in my surgery. She says I might have IBS too.
If you're trying for a baby you might want to look to some "healing" diets - I know sounds like hippie nonsense... but I recommend the AIP Protocol - it's a form of Paelo diet that helps the body to heal. I found aiplifestyle.com very helpful. The reason I knew my endo was so bad was because the diet stopped working - but for 4 years is was a God-send.
Good luck!
Hi there,
Yes a symptom of endo is bowel problems. I have a real grievance with the general term IBS Drs use. They are saying the bowel is irritated but not what causing it, cos for something to be irritated there has to be something causing it irritation, be it wheat allergy, polyps, endo etc etc! But it is just fobbed off and not dealt with or looked into further. I even had a gastroenterologist tell me to my face that endo doesn't cause bowel problems!! Grrrr!
Sorry to hear you suffering from this symptom. it not fun at all. Wishing you the best x
Hi, I have endo on/in the bowel, which was diagnosed and seen via a laparoscopy and my GP still said it was IBS! Ha it's not very well understood and I may well have IBS too but it's a little coincidental I think. Anyway, even though endo effects people differently my symptoms were (I say we're as I'm pregnant after years of trying and the pain/symptoms have gone!): pain after eating, loose stools, frequent bowel movements (like up to 8 times a day) and strangest when having the bowel movement it got rid of all the pain from my bladder (endo there too) whilst on the loo. Bizarre. You may have different symptoms but it doesn't mean it's not here or elsewhere and just effecting your bowels. Good luck getting answers x
I have endo on my bowel and it has tethered a part of my sigmoid Colin to my uterus. This causes painful bowel motions at certain times and occasional rectal bleeding. Went wheat free several years ago and definitely helped.give it a go. Surgery to risky as chance of colostomy or incontinence do not going there!
Ha yes that's what they said to me and I didn't fancy a colostomy bag at 34... I don't much like the pain either though x
Hand you tried wheat free? My consultant explained to me that modern processes mean wheat has a chemical similar to oestrogen, therefore this acts as an irritant giving ibs type symptoms, which we have all been diagnosed with along the way I'm sure! It had really transformed my pain for several years, coming back a bit now, but think that's because I lapsed a bit with the diet. Back on it now and feeling so much better.
Just realised I said sigmoid Colin!!!! Meant colon 😃
Haha I guessed you meant colon although I am partial to naming my body parts, makes them less scary and difficult to get angry with them when they're playing up ha. I tried gluten free for 3 months then gave up when I saw no difference, although I know you need to persevere x
Ah no. Should have worked in that time frame I reckon. I have mirena coil and cerazette continuous which helps. Take care x
Thank you, as stated above I'm pregnant now so have to eat all the delights of the world but afterwards I shall be looking into diet again. I asked a similar question myself a while ago and think the success some people have had is amazing. Look after yourself x
Hi there, sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I had endo and adhesions in my pouch of Douglas which caused damage to my rectum. It took six years to diagnose as Dr's kept fobbing me off my rather extreme symptoms (rectal bleeding, intense pain, vomiting and pain with intercourse) as 'IBS'. The problem was all of my scans, internal exams etc kept showing up as normal and it was only when I saw a bsge approved consultant that they did a lap and found the problem. You know your own body and you know what feels right and wrong so keep pushing until you get an answer you are satisfied with. Good luck xxx
I have extensive bowel endometriosis (2 large nodules of it, one growing round the large intestine on the right which is tethered to my uterus with my right ovary stuck in between) and another close to my rectum. Prior to being diagnosed with endo I was persistently told my bowel symptoms (diarrhoea, constipation, mucus, bleeding) were IBS and haemorrhoids. However as far as I know, endo can cause bowel symptoms without necessarily growing on the bowel itself.
IBS is NOT a diagnosis. It means your GP doesn't know but wants to tell you something that will satisfy your need for an answer.
I too was diagnosed as ibs which I never believed it was I pushed for more tests and they diagnosed endo in pouch of Douglas xx good luck
I was misdiagnosed with ibs turned out to be severe endo on my bowel. X
