Hi everyone
I'm new here, sorry if this seems like a bit of an essay - I am after some advice about desogestrel.
I have been on desogestrel for almost 10 months now (8 months at double dose). It's not been an easy ride, constant bleeding everyday (very heavy to start with). Finally at 9 months the bleeding has stopped.
I have been waiting for surgery and was advised to keep on with the desogestrel until my surgery where they would fit a coil. I'm not keen on the idea of a coil but when I was bleeding constantly I was willing to try it. Now I'm not, but my GP is doesn't want to keep me on double dose desogestrel long term.
I have a pre op appointment at the start of august. I am considering reducing the dose now to see if I need to try the coil or not.
Has anyone dropped the dosage? what were the side effects?
My gynae says any hormones I must try for 9 months for my body to adjust- it did take 9 months with the pill. But it was horrific. I'm not keen on doing that all over again with the coil.
The surgery is a hysteroscopy with potential laparoscopy- I was on a waiting list for the hysteroscopy before and went in for the procedure to be told I don't need it. Then to go back for a follow up to be told I do need it again and go back on the waiting list. So I'm not sure I will actually have the surgery this time but just want to be prepared.
Thanks - has anyone been in a similar situation before?
