Weight Gain, Lap nerves & hormone medication after pill/coil?

Hi all,

This is my first post and it's so comforting to read others stories/experiences who are going through the same things as me! I have a couple of questions if people wouldn't mind sharing- I was on the waiting list for 2 years and I saw a consultant last week who said it was possible endometriosis. I've been booked in for surgery next week (16th) which I can't believe is so quick but I had a lot of cancellations for my initial consultation so I wouldn't be surprised. Any advice? I'm so nervous never had any surgery like this before? I have put on a significant amount of weight in the last year and my diet/exercise has been consistent so I put it down to endo but the consultant told me that wasn't true anyone else had the same issue? Also he was saying about going on hormone medication after. Is anyone who's had a lap not go on any hormone medication after like the pill/coil? I've tried every type of pill combined and progesterone only and both the mirena and Cooper coil and they didn't agree with me at all. The pill made my periods more irregular as my periods were regular. When I'm not on anything and I only bleed heavy ish for 2 days. The pill made me so so moody and I felt like a different person once I came off. I then tried the Copper coil which was awful- was such a painful insertion and made me bleed so heavy. GP the recommended mirena but it wasn't inserted properly so it was so painful so my body rejected it. I think my body had a lot of trauma from the copper coil. Consultant wanted to fit the mirena after the lap but I can't put my body through that again.

Any advice would be much appreciated xx

Hi,

I also tried various different pills, which didn’t agree with me. I had a coil fitted & also it was rejected but after having my 2nd lap earlier this year, they inserted another one & so far so good ( 5months). It may be worth giving it another go. Although my symptoms were different to you, it has made a huge difference to the amount of bleeding.

Hello

If you have tried all the medication and you have proof to show the consultant how you react to it then stand firm and refuse. With poof they can’t argue. They also can’t make you take a medication or make you have a procedure. Have you been offered tranexamic acid or tried zoladex or prostap injections? They are the usual offering for endometriosis treatment. Zoladex and prostap are hormone medication that put your body through a false medical menopause to give your body a break, you also have hrt alongside it to relieve symptoms like the hot flushes , in my case I’m on patches. Not all treatment or medications are for everyone. Good luck.

hun I tried loads of things when I had excision surgery and before when they put me in an induced menopause I have lost just over a stone in weight which makes me believe that endo and hormones and weight gain are real and linked .

Hi

I tried birth control in my early 20's and it didn't work for me like you I had reactions to it with my mood but also gained weight so I stopped. It took 15 years for my endometriosis diagnosis in that time it progressed to stage 4 and i had a frozen pelvis. Once diagnosed in 2020 it was a huge up hill battle to get surgery. I was put in a medically induced menopause using prostrap and then moved to zoladex. During that 5 years I gained over 4 stone. All the consultants kept saying to me that it wasn't the medicine.

It was the worst decision I made and even though it reduced my pain the weight piled on. I was literally eating rabbit food in the last year prior to surgery. I still didn't lose weight and then that was the reason they kept delaying my surgery. I stopped using the injections 1 year before surgery but I was unable to exercise because I was in so much pain and was bound to the house. Happy to report I am 5 weeks post op now and I have lost over half a stone already.

I dont care what the doctors say. You know your body. Birth control is not for everyone so don't take it if it gives you adverse reactions and affects your mood. If I had the chance all over again I would have come off the injections way earlier. I now have a lot of work to do to lose this.

Listen to your body. It sounds like you have horrible experiences so just be firm about it.

Wish you all the best.
