I had my coil fitted on Wednesday, been in absolute agony since considering I’m taking strong pain killers. I am waiting gynaecology still, I have been told I have symptoms of Endometriosis & PCOS.
I’m still in pain now, can I ask if this is normal please or if it’s something to worry about? I bled a lot after fitting, nothing till today, but it’s not a lot just a little spot.
TIA x

I don't think it's normal to be in that much pain. I has mine fitted during my laparoscopy so was in pain bc of surgery anyway but I don't think a coil fitted on its own should be causing severe pain so please contact someone, 111 should be able to advise and help x
The Mirena coil didn’t work for me. Immediately on insertion I can only describe my body going into shock - the pain was unbelievable. Luckily there was an adjoining toilet - I dragged myself off the table and made it just in time for everything in my body to “evacuate” (diarrhoea and vomiting). When I got back on the table, the gynaecologist confirmed that my uterus has spontaneously ejected the coil. He told me my uterus was a “toxic environment” (nice!) and that was it. Found another (female) gynae who put me on continuous pill (previously I was on a three month cycle) and that helped. Uterus cramping was less intense.
Just wanted to confirm that it doesn’t work for everyone - removal might be best option for you.
Hi. My insertion was agony too! Think due to the Endo. I've had mine 4 months and the pain and bleeding has only recently settled. I'm sure yours will too, but you have to persevere a while, I'm afraid.
Although when I had the mirena fitted it flipping hurt a lot ex dpt for having period pains after and being uncomfy for a few days that was it and I have had 4/5 fitted now. One of mine moved which caused pain but that was after a year of having it in. I would try to book an appointment to check it you could always cancel if it settles. 🥰
I was in agony after having mine fitted, the pain got less but never went away and I would bleed for 3 weeks at a time. I had it removed in the end as it just didn’t work for me. If you are worried maybe speak to your doctors or ring 111 if it is really bad and can’t get into the doctors.
I had mine fitted last Friday via hysteroscopy as my uterus is tilted. I'm still in alot of pain, bleeding in the morning and evening heavy seems to be the pattern at the moment. I was told this should last around 2 weeks but it'll take a few months for body to fully settle and get used to the coil.
Taking ibuprofen or mefenamic acid is helping me atm. I will book a gp appointment in 4-6 weeks as advised to double check everything is okay and my strings. Hope this helps, it's difficult sometimes to know what is right, everyone's body reacts differently. You're not going through this alone
Hi, I don’t think it’s normal to be in agony. Have you had an ultrasound before? I assume you’re on the waiting list. If they do it with a 3D scanner they can see if you have a ‘different’ shaped uterus - perhaps the coil isn’t sitting correctly.
Hi I had the mirena coil fitted 18 months ago, in the beginning it was really painful and heavy bleeding so my gynecologist put me on zoladex injections for 3 months and hrt just until it settled and it worked, I have stage 4 endo and adenymiosis and was constantly bleeding and in agony but now I feel like I have my life back, I was very reluctant to get the coil but it was the last chance before an hysterectomy and I'm so pleased I had it done. Hope this helps might be worth mentioning the zoladex and hrt to your doctor.
Its sound like it has nit been fitted properly. Who fitted for you? Did they use a scanner to check it was positioned properly? This happened to me the first time I had it done by a GP, and pain so bad I had it removed. 2nd time I got it done at a sexual health clinic by a gynaecologist, who actually knew what they were doing.
