is a one month wait after private scan normal?

I had my mri at a private hospital and the follow up consultation to discuss the results was booked for a month later. Is it normal to have to wait a month and 4 days for your private online follow up consultation after your mri? It seems like a long time to wait for them to just tell me if they saw anything on my scan. They said they’d book the appointment when they had the scan results, so the results are there and I’m just having to wait a month when they know if they saw something or not. I expected a 2 week wait but not 1 month and 4 days.

I think it just depends on their availability. I booked my private one and he had availability within 2 weeks. But my NHS specialists doesn’t have any availability for 3 months.

I keep seeing loads of people who went private and were seen 2 weeks after their mri

I would’ve thought it’d be quicker if you’re paying. Is it worth just getting in touch to see if they can bring forward?

They give you the next available appointment, you don’t get a choice particularly, you just have to pretty much take what you’re given or get seen later if you can’t do that date. I had to wait 3 months for the initial consultation, he’s a top specialist so maybe he’s just particularly busy but it’s frustrating when you’re worried and paying a lot.

Yeah that’s completely understandable. I’ve been there. My private journey was extremely disappointing/short lived. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I also assumed that given I was paying the service/experience/guidance would be better.

Heyx how do you get mri on nhs? as a referral from Gyno ?

You can either ask your GP to refer, or book a initial consult directly without a referral on circle health. You can pinpoint your area and pick a consultant, they would charge for the inital consult and then put you forward for the MRI - which would be an additional cost. Alternatively I think you can just pay for an MRI at certain private hospitals. In Manchester for instance we have Pal Mall where a scan can be paid for without referral but you want to try and make sure the person reporting on findings has at least a special interest in endo or is an actual specialist.

I will say, I have had three different reviews of my MRI. I actually had the scan done on the NHS. My local hospital, a private specialist and NHS BSGE center specialist all interpreted/reported on the scan differently.

Hi, I did in fact realised that I have been referred to one of the Circle Health hospitals (they said my appointment in England its covered by NHS) its scheduled for October, and I was wondering what is the expected waiting time for the MRI if one will be recommended to me ? Do you know if that MRI can be covered as well as it looks like otherwise it costs about £1000… (I understood yours was covered but was it from the Circle health hospital?)

Thanks a lot, I will speak during my appointment on the details who interprets the results.

Hi, my MRI was carried out by my local NHS hospital. It took around 2 months for the scan appointment but I did ask them to add me to their cancellation list. You should be able to request this with your hospital also. I’m not sure on cost of a private MRI scan, I only paid for an initial consult privately, this £275.

Hey, Could I ask you how did you get a referral to a private MRI and how much did it cost you ? I am considering it otherwise will do it in Poland as can’t see the hope of doing in UK 🤦🏼‍♀️

I didn’t get a referral I just looked into the nearest accredited centres, found the one that saw people privately, picked out of the two endometriosis specialists, filled in the online form with the information, the secretary responded and made me send it all again for some reason to her specific email and I hadn’t saved anything so had to re write it all. She sent the information to the specialist, then said he would see me and booked an initial consultation which cost £250. Had the initial consultation, I’d previously had an ultrasound at a general hospital on the nhs and he had the report cause I got the gp to send it. He said it was inconclusive so he suggested surgery or an MRI, we agreed to the MRI and he got us to go straight to the scan department in the hospital to book it there. The mri cost £860

What were your results?

Endo, multiple large fibroids and adhesions for the MRI scan. Also had a chest CT and got the results of that 6 working days later - thickening of lung tissue which is also likely endo x

I think it depends on how much private work they do. The time between my scan and follow up was a month and 2 days. I was a bit surprised and irritated, but the specialist I had my follow up with has 2 afternoon clinics a week maximum.

It does seem a bit long for private? My NHS report from MRI was back to me in about 5 weeks.
