I have my laparoscopy booked in for Tuesday (9th) I had my pre-op back in October. When I had this I wasn't taking naproxen, but have been since December. I've not been told to stop any of my medication beforehand but am getting anxious as I've read you shouldn't be taking naproxen before. Has anyone got any experience of this?
I've called the hospital but being a weekend not many are there. A nurse I spoke to said I should be okay to continue but she can't say for certain and I need to call back Monday morning.
I'm terrified my surgery will be cancelled due to not stopping them.
Has anyone else not stopped them etc or have any experience of this situation?
TIA x

Hello I stopped all medication on the morning of my surgery, I was never told not to however I am on quite a lot of meds, they tell us not to eat/small amount of water so i thought an empty stomach would be better 💛
Thank you. I've not taken my naproxen since this morning. I'm continuing with my other meds as they seem to be okay to continue with the info I've found. I figure stopping the naproxen lessens the risk of them not doing the surgery, and at worst I get a couple of days worse pain (which isn't unusual anyways) x
I was still taking it before my surgery. Just don’t take from the evening before. It will have near enough left your body by the time you have surgery xx
I was taking those at the time of my first surgery. Pre-op told me to stop taking all painkillers, medications and vitamin suppiments 5 full days before (yes that was a rough 5 days). However, when I got there on the day they were confused why I had been told that. Apparently some can interfere with the anaesthesia or cause more bleeding or the opposite (clots). My anaesthesiologist said the naproxen would have been fine to take as long as they were made aware during the talk they have with you prior to the op. They will come and see you beforehand. Sending positive vibes your way and hope the 9th goes well for you.
Thank you. I'm sorry you had to go that long without it. I've gone just over 24hours and I'm struggling so I can't imagine how bad it was for you. I'll make sure they are aware when I go. Thank you for the well wishes 💛
Sorry I wrote a whole post there cause I thought you said naltrexone not naproxen so ignore that if anyone saw it in the 30 seconds it was up!! Hope your surgery goes ok and the nurse gets back to you quickly xx
Hello, I was told to stop taking my naproxen a few days before as it can increase the risk of bleeding but looking at the previous comments it looks like everyone has a different experience so it may be fine, all the best I hope your surgery is beneficial for you and grants you healing 🤗
If you're taking Naproxin regularly make sure the Doc scripts Omeprazole or something similar, I'm sure they have, they're qualified so should. It's a gastric protector for your stomach as long term Naproxin used can, occasionally, cause stomach ulcers, so best to protect it. Ps I wouldn't worry, call them Mon but I'd not worry too much, I'm on Naproxin and I've never been told to stop it for an op and I've had 4 scheduled and 1 emergency op since starting them. Good luck, everything will be fine hun. 🙂
I took omeprazole and naproxen the eve before and the morning of my op.
I was encouraged to take the omeprazole like this and I’d asked at the time if I could/should take the naproxen and was advised it would be fine if I wanted to but not essential.
I told them I had done this when they asked immediately prior to the op and there was no change to their plan. I suspect the only diff was their reluctance to give me more anti-inflammatory meds too soon after the op.
