Sorry :( me again (post surgery question)

Hello lovely community. You guys have been so helpful to me recently so wanted to gauge advice again.

I had a miscellany of things done last Wednesday… copied and pasted exactly from my follow-up letter so I get nothing wrong: hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy, Novasure endometrial ablation and laparoscopic Helica removal and Helica ablation of endometriosis.

I have had the laparoscopic part done twice before with pretty much no problems so the fact I’m having a few issues this time is putting me at unease. Would love to know if anyone has had similar or if you think it would be prudent to get checked by a GP for peace of mind (but really conscious I don’t want to time waste).

Although the op went well, about an hour after I was back from recovery I was getting awful pain on my left side and that’s what prohibited a speedy discharge (the intense left side pain). Strangely I’ve not had really any unmanageable pain with the actual incision areas. I hate taking medication but even morphine didn’t help in hospital. Eventually a quite ‘assertive’ night nurse was desperate to get rid of me so I got home that night about 11 pm.

Since then recovery has been much slower than I thought. Still this left side causing the issues and I have pain there still… more than expected a week down the line.

My tummy is horribly swollen which I know is perhaps to be expected but from the side it looks all wonky and misshapen, not just swollen. Is this normal? I mean I didn’t have this before but maybe it is. Some bruising but that’s probably similar to my previous ops.

I have felt nauseous since last Wednesday. Not sick at all. Just nauseous.

Two days ago I got tiny, almost unnoticeable, dotty spots on my left hand side. Not itchy. Not hot. Nothing untoward. I just know they’re new. I did call the hospital and they advised antihistamines for 48 hours which I’ve done. They’re still there. No worse though.

As stupid as it sounds, I can’t laugh. It hurts too much.

My feet feel a bit tingly.

All these odd things are making me feel paranoid but maybe I’m worrying about nothing. I certainly don’t feel ill or poorly at all. I’m due to go away next week and want to ensure I’m tip-top. Perhaps I’m not being patient enough with recovery. Perhaps it’s just different this time.

Do you think a GP would just check things over for me although I used private medical for the op? Is this appropriate? Has anyone had similar to make me feel it’s normal?

Thank you my friends x

just be careful you don’t have sepsis . I got sepsis after my lap and I literally couldn’t get out of bed and my wound was weeping and you could see a red area in my skin that was hot to touch my mum was a nurse and said it didn’t look normal . Saw out of hours doc went to hospital bloods revealed systemic infection so I had to have both Iv and oral antibiotics and stayed in hospital for a week and my healing took a while was still on antibiotics for a further two weeks after hospital discharging me . The spots could indicate blood infection ie sepsis you need to see a gp urgently don’t wait around not trying to shock you but you need urgent help. Spots that don’t fade meningitis / sepsis . Get help please 🙏.

The pain In my tummy was awful x and a lot of swelling I had a cellulitic infection from a hematioma which is where blood pools inside. Not wanting to scare you but you definitely 💯 need to seek help.

Thank you… I rang hospital this morning and they asked me to send photos of everything which I did. They seem to think all is still going the right way. Although overnight my lower incision which was improving has now gone very dark and bigger. I’m so confused as the nurse said that 2 drs and nurses have taken a look and they’re happy so I don’t know if I can argue with that

I just feel they’re getting irritated with me. I don’t have any gunky stuff near my incisions. Just the bruising.

I guess I need to listen and keep on resting up but if anything changes I’ll just get in contact again. I need to be ok by next week.

Are you full recovered? Your ordeal sounds awful.

:(

I can imagine the worry. You poor thing. Well if what the nurse said to me this morning is true about all ops are different and we mustn’t compare (although I can’t help it!!) then you must surely be due a smooth ride next time!! Let’s hope so anyway. Do keep us posted on here.

I would go to A+E and get some peace of mind. If they say it's fine and normal, don't feel bad. Better to check it, I would think... Also, is there another hospital you could go to? A second opinion if something doesn't feel right is not a bad idea...

Thank you. I am worried but she’s shown the pics to nurses and a dr and they’re in agreement that all seems to be heading the right way. Even though I feel different. I’ll see how I feel in another 24 hours. Overnight healing I’m sure is the best. Keeping everything crossed as I’ve been feeling so down the last few days.

your GP is there for anything, including post private surgery. If Morphine didn’t help, that should have warranted further assessment to see if any post op complications. I would suggest see your own gp, and go back to private surgeon as post op complications should be dealt with ideally by the person who operated

I do feel I’m being fobbed off a little but it’s feel, who am I talking argue with a health professional? :( even during today the bruise that went black overnight has spread more into my left side which was the side that was troublesome pretty much straight after the surgery. Gosh, I wish I knew what was best. Even trying to get a GP appt is like pulling teeth. They’ll likely offer me something for 2025!

You need to state you feel like you need an emergency appointment as you feel there could possibly be post op complications due to x y and z.
