pleased to say I had a very successful laparoscopy experience two weeks ago now - just sharing some positivity for anyone anxious ahead of theirs as I was terrified and freaking out.
My scars are healing really well and I’ve been keeping pretty positive. During surgery I had a lot of endometriosis across different areas which was all removed. I also had the mirena coil fitted.
I was just looking for some advice/reassurance. I had some spotting after the surgery for a few days and then had what I assume was a period about a week later. However, two weeks on I now seem to be having a lot of very brown discharge. It’s not bloody at all and just really brown, is this normal/did anyone else experience something like this?

Hi Jessiah, I will be having my laparoscopy surgery next week and thinking whether to get the mirena coil fitted under the anaesthetic. Just have been feeling very anxious about the whole procedure and if the mirena will trigger a lot of cramps. Keep reading horror stories online..
I hope you find the answer your looking for and thanks for sharing your experience.
Hey, I know you’ll be getting a lot of advice from all directions but if it helps at all, I was also super anxious and indecisive about getting it fitted - made my decision about 30 mins before. In the end I pretty much decided I may aswell, it saved me from having to get it fitted while conscious and feeling it, plus I figured (and was right ) I’d be in that much pain after the lap and on such strong painkillers that it would lessen any cramp effects of the coil. I’ve got the approach now that I’m navigating pain from the laparoscopy so haven’t had chance to experience something just from the coil and if I end up hating the coil, I can just get it taken out, no problem. So while it’s not exactly medical my approach was pretty much just ‘I may as well do it while there’s so much going on and if I don’t like it, I’ll just get rid’
I was also thinking along the same lines, I'm really squeamish and bad with getting any sort of internal examinations hence why was considering getting the Mirena coil under anaesthetic..at the moment I'm on the contraceptive pill and it has helped enormously with the endo /cyst pain. So my gynae has said atleast the pill has worked for me, but at the same time I'm thinking I can't be on pills for years. ... I was considering the implant on the arm but I don't know if it helps with pain.
But thank you so much for your message it has really helped! It's good to know that I'm not the only person who has been this indecisive about the Mirena coil.
I’ve just had a Mirena refitted during a lap/hysteroscopy and can honestly say having it done under anaesthetic was much better than without - that experience is one I’d never want to repeat. I’ve also not had huge amounts of cramping so far but I’m only Day 1 post surgery. Not sure if that helps, but I’ve also got so many pain relief options now I do feel like this is the best time for me.
I had the coil fitted during my surgery in November and I would say I get brown discharge in place of a ‘period’ - i think it’s normal or at least that’s what the doc told me. The hope is that eventually it stops any bleed at all 🤞🤞🤞 (I was stage 2 endo)
Hi Jessiah, I had a laproscopy in September and had the coil fitted at the same time. For the first 3 months , I bled almost daily including this brown discharge you speak of . My consultant said it was normal and would take a good 3-4 months to settle down. 4 months post op and *touch wood * the daily bleeding has gone and I only get this around ovulation or my period. Hope this helps xx
