First period after laparoscopy

I’ve recently had my first laparoscopy and got diagnosed and treated for stage 4 deep infiltrating endometriosis- symptoms were fainting and vomiting from period pain, rectal bleeding and severe pain causing me to double over.

Last week I had my first period and on the first day the symptoms were even worse than before, severe pain lasting hours and fainting multiple times, alongside rectal bleeding again (however with the endometriosis around my bowel being treated I thought that would have gone).

Does anyone have experience of this please and know whether this is right for my first period? Also are there any signs to look out for as to when to go back to my gynaecologist?

I have had 2 treatment laps and had exactly the same in the first period post treatment: in fact it was probably worse than normal, the second one was normal, and then by the 3rd it actually started to get better. So from my experience it’s normal what has happened. I also had the same when I started prostap: I had a period after the first dose and it was horrific, but after that it was loads better.

I hope you feel better soon.

I have a similar experience after my first laparoscopy for endometriosis diagnosis. My first period after this op was horrible, like revenge, much heavy flow than before and the whole period lasted over 13 days...I felt completely drained as I also suffered from severe back pain due to my endo, which is also stage 4 and linked to my bowl and back, and I'm still suffering badly with this back pain that wakes me up in the middle of the night after 1 month of the surgery. I wish we could some more support.

Hi

The rectal bleeding implies that you have endometriosis in your bowel. It is unlikely that you surgery would have touched that as they would not have touched the bowel without a specialist to hand. The surgery would have added to your inflammation so that is why things are worse.

You could look at an anti inflammatory diet to help, and NAC may help with your bowel issue. A good nutritional therapist like Dian Shepperson Mills who knows about endometriosis may help with that.

I agree with this - try anti inflammatory diet, it’s worked wonders for me. Especially cutting out wheat and caffiene!
