I just had a phone call from the hospital advising they had some cancellations for a pre op and asked if I could go in on Sunday. I was quite shocked as I wasn’t expecting this for a few more months as my surgeon called me about 2 weeks ago to see how I am getting on due to ongoing issues and he advised we was looking August time for surgery. I said that would work perfect as I have commitments in other months and worked it around this ‘expected’ op date period. I am now a little worried as I go away start of May and I have a work course mid June which I can’t re-arrange. Surgeon noted down the dates and advised would pass to booking team so it would not be affected but I am starting to panic a little and just wondered how soon after having a pre op was you booked in for laparoscopy
thank you x

Hi Lindle, I have had internal exam and also an MRI. MRI shown spots around pouch of Douglas and another area (can’t remember as I had the scan last July). The laparoscopy will be for diagnosis X
I’ve just had a diagnostic lap a couple of days ago also after being offered a cancellation. I accepted the appointment as I knew if I didn’t they’d offer it to somebody else but I followed up afterwards to check if I did need to cancel due to work commitments what the waiting time would be. All they were able to tell me was that it could be up to 52 weeks so I decided that I needed to take it.
So I guess what my advice would be is try and confirm what the new date would be for the operation if you didn’t take this cancellation. If they can guarantee you can have it in August then that might be better for you!
Having said that, if your next commitment is in May there may be enough time between now and then to recover. I know that many women report feeling better within two weeks and for those that take longer usually within 4 weeks they feel recovered. I asked my surgeon if they removed endo during the op if it would make my recovery longer and he said because they’d only be treating the more superficial endo it shouldn’t take any longer than normal.
Of course, you should also be aware that there are risks involved with the operation that might raise complications.
Ultimately, I think you’re in the best position to make the decision on what is going to work for you. For me, the cancellation was worth taking because I didn’t want to wait any longer than I needed to but if you can hold off for a while until you have your other commitments out of the way perhaps it would be less stressful than worrying about recovering in time…?
I am just going to go with it, the situation in may is that I am abroad for 10 days and booked this a long time ago as I’d always been told it would be august/September time. I think I was just in quite a shock when I got the call!
The plan in June is not too bad just as long as surgery does not fall on the 10 days of training, if I have the op prior then at least I can still attend by wfh.
Can I ask from when you got your pre op how long was it before you had your operation date? The pain is just unbearable to the point my GP books me in every 4 weeks for a review!
Hi Nicky, I had pre-op on the Monday and the surgery same week on the Thursday but I think it varies based on what area your in. I'm in the south of the country
hi, not sure if this is the norm, but my surgeon insists pre ops should be no more than 6 weeks before the operation date, so it may be that they are able to offer a cancellation to you. Hope all goes well, Alexa
hmm not sure on the waiting times as they vary greatly across the country. The only thing l can think of is that after lap surgery you are told not to drive for 6 weeks, also if travelling as a passenger in a car to buy a large soft cushion to place between yourself and both straps of the seat belt.
Hope you soon have the answers you need from your consultant, Alexa 🌸🌸🌸
so I have a little update… I was told my surgery was going to be in March and I would receive a letter confirming the date and also have to go in a few days prior for another blood test. I hadn’t heard anything and rang the hospital booking team yesterday who advised my surgery is delayed with no confirm date and they think my pre op may expire before I get my date due to funding shortages!
I already had my bloods done and covid swab, has my hospital bag packed and felt like I was getting somewhere, now feeling like back at square one!
hi have just found your post, l had lap surgery 3 weeks ago and have been told not to drive or lift heavy items for 6 weeks. This was my second surgery which completed my hysterectomy after a partial l had in December which failed to find the carcinoma in my womb.
I would say if you are having lap investigation you MIGHT be able to do the things you have planned but if it is for anything other than this you might need to speak to a gynea professional at your alotted hospital.
Stay as well, as you are able, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want to chat some more. Alexa 🌸🌸🌸
