Just had my pre op , and she gave me a number to call to see how long roughly till my surgery.

They told me 5/6 months, so what was the point of having my pre op now??

Sorry needed to rant x

Crazy isn’t it. However I was told 3-4 months and it was 3 weeks. Does seem mad to have the pre op so far in advance, especially the MRSA part

Hi what happens at the pre op if you don’t mind me asking? x

Of course not. Basically it’s the Mrsa swabs in ya nose and groin, then they take bloods and do height and weight and bp. Then You answer a bunch of questions about your health and then can ask them things. Takes about an hour. Xx

Hey kim

That’s ridiculous isn’t it I mean what is the point in that they would normally do it within a few weeks? If you don’t mind me asking what area are you in as it all depends on the area and what hospital, also call them back and ask for any cancellations can you be brought forward a bit x

I was in Watford for last 2 Laps and I hate both my pre ops within a few weeks of the ops nothing like 3months or more so hopefully you will get a letter in the post soon with your date, I have another consultation on 5th October to plan my surgery I now live in Bedford so could be different over here as I only moved here 10months ago so I am not even sure of the waiting times in Bedfordshire can only ask in my appointment I suppose, well I hope you get your op soon my lovely and have a pain free life after x

I’m the same! I understand the waiting times but I’m confused when I had my pre op on Thursday even though it could be up to 6 months wait. They only last for 6 months too so if it’s out by even one day we’ll need another pre op which surely will delay things even more?x

I had my pre op on Monday, which hospital are you at? The nurse who done my pre op said it could be a week later or months later, but she also asked if I was okay with any cancellation and I agreed so fingers crossed it doesn’t take too long 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I had my pre-op in April and I've been told my operation will be in December at the earliest. 8 months later. Crazy, isn't it! Argh x

Thanks for all your replies, it’s crazy how different the waiting times are. I hope you all get sorted soon and are in the road to recovery xx

I already knew the date of my operation - I could choose - and then my pre-op letter came through two weeks before my op.

Where area are you in? Or were you private? Xx

perhaps the difference I went private. my work has health insurance so I used that. A lot of women feel they can't use their work health insurance or don't know how - it's really useful - if I didn't have it through work I would definitely consider taking it out on my own. It works pretty much the same as pet insurance!

If I had insurance I’d def go through that, but no clue how to go about it and I expect knowing I need surgery would push up the prices anyway.

I had surgery through my ex husbands work insurance and it was great.

Hope you’re recovering well

It doesn't always work by need of treatment; the majority have a limit per condition or a general limit per year that will be covered. It may cost more for appointments as sometimes private will want to repeat the tests / checks / consultations. Some private hospitals offer their own payment plans for ops so it's worth looking into.

I'd start by looking at your local private hospitals then checking their websites, and calling the relevant dept to have a chat, I'm sure they'd help. They can also tell you whom they work with regarding insurance.

Money supermarket compares medical insurance if that helps :)
