Laparoscopy when on period?

Hello! My laparoscopy is next month and I think it’s going to fall at the same time as my period. Can surgery still go ahead even if you’re on your period? Does it make it any more uncomfortable or complicated? Thanks in advance xx

Hi. I’m sure someone’s asked this a while back and I remember everyone saying that it’s still totally fine to do the laparoscopy so I wouldn’t worry 😀. X

Happened to me as well, was told it was ok, just let the surgeon know. Good luck with the op!

I would definitely call the hospital to check as I had to had to reschedule mine. Although it was a few years ago, so maybe guidelines have changed? But still, I would get confirmation to make sure.

It's absolutely fine to be on your period just ensure you have sanitary pads not tampons.

I had mine on Wednesday and was told to come off my pill the week prior and was still bleeding. Was absolutely fine. I spoke with the surgeon before. I was having a hysteroscopy as well and she said to leave the tampon in and she would sort it (cringe).

My surgeon wrote to my GP asking to prescribe something (I forget the name!) to delay my period. It also seems from the other replies that it’s fine to have the surgery while on your period 😊

Its really not a bad thing to be having your period during laparoscopy for Endo as my surgeon told me he would be able to see where the Endo is active due to this. He also said after the surgery that he could see I definitely had retrograde flow as he could see this. Best of luck x

I had my laparoscopy when I was on my period. My surgeon said it was fine - I don't know if contributed more to pain or not, but they were able to move ahead with surgery, regardless.

I was having a super heavy day during my surgery 4 years ago. The nurses were really kind about it and let me slip off my knickers at the last moment in theatre and dealt with the pad for me.
