Laparoscopy while on period

Hi,

This might seem like a daft question but I’m due to have my lap on 21st March but I’m due on my period on 20th. Will that have any effect or has this happened to anyone else?

Personally I wasn’t on my period at the time of my laparoscopy.

I am awaiting my second laparoscopy next Friday and at my appointment I asked if my period was due then could I still have the lap- she said it wouldn’t make a difference.

If you’re really worried you can contact the department and ask them.

When I had mine I was worried about that so I called up to ask and they said it would be fine. My consultant / surgeon said sometimes it's better if you're on your period as they'll be able to see the endo flare up more, so will be more visible. They do get you to change into a gown so check before you go what sanitary protection you should wear - my nurses before the op said no knickers so they gave me an old fashioned huge cotton pad I could just wedge there!

I did find due to the stress / trauma / recovery from the op, I had another period two weeks after, this seemed to reset my cycle and that became my new cycle. Sometimes the body falls apart a bit and cycles will be affected as it's fertility - this is the last thing the body wants to do when it's recovering so it can change slightly.

I have my Lap on the same day as you ! I’m due to have my period with week but I’m so irregular I don’t know if it will come now or then.. so was thinking the same question... good luck for you Lap ❤️x

I had my lap last week and had my period. It was organised at short notice so I had told the consultant in advance that I would likely have it. He didn’t care.

I wore my own underwear and a pad (they wouldn’t let me wear a tampon) into theatre. These were removed once I was under and I woke with a massive industrial pad between my legs. The lady in recovery was quick to tell me it was there in case I was worried.

That said, I’m not sure if everyone has a pad after my procedure (exicision and ablation of endo and cyst removal) as they checked the blood loss on the pad regularly.

I was on my period for mine and that wasn't a problem at all, they're used to it! They just give you a nice pair of knickers so you can wear a pad underneath your gown before you go to theatre
