My Operation is finally in 2 days yippee 🙌 but also scared at the same time going to have a oophorectomy and a mirena coil put in. So any of you have any tips or things I should take into hospital bag please the nerves are definitely kicking in xx
Hi, I’d definitely recommend taking a pillow with you for the car ride home so you can protect your tummy from the tight seatbelt. Also lots of peppermint tea for after surgery as the gas can get pretty uncomfortable. A loose pair of dungarees or a baggy jumper dress might also help. Best of luck!
Hi ya thanks I’m still in hospital very sore at the moment but so glad it’s over, I have a temporary catheter in as I think my bladder has gone to sleep I’m hoping to walk about a little tonight X
The weird thing is the most pain is from the gas they use to expand your abdomen. It irritates a nerve in your neck/shoulder and the pain from that is awful, like the worst ever cricked neck. It will go off after a few days but people don't tell you about it so you might be baffled as to why your neck hurts.
The anaesthetic might make you sick for a few hours when you come round.
After the sickness and the neck pain it is just a case of being careful what you do for a couple of months. Try to walk a little bit each day start really small just around the house, then from your house to next door, then a little further. It took me about 3 months to get back to normal activity levels. The girl next to me in hospital was really gung ho, trying to pick up heavy bags, doing lots straight away and she was back into hospital ina few weeks.
Take it slow for at least two months, dont lift anything heavy at all. Good luck
Thank you for replying I will try not to do too much this operation I’ve been waiting for 3 years now it’s tomorrow I can’t quite believe it 😊 X
Hi I had a bilateral salpingo oophorectomy back in May I was only in for the day operated on at 8.30am and home by 7.30pm. I did take a bag with me with my phone and kindle dressing gown and a wash bag and sanitary towels as you will bleed after. My gynaecologist was amazing as I didn’t have any of the usual gas/shoulder pain after which was such a relief. Peppermint tea will help and walking around as much as you can after to move the gas. I was also meant to of had a mirena fitted but it turns out my cervix was completely closed tight so nothing was going in there they said it’s my age 50 and that I had been on Depo Provera for the past 4 years so I am now using combined HRT patches. Loose bottoms for a few days also as I have adhesions already my incision sites are not were you expect them to be but I was told this before surgery I assume your will be low down in the usual place. I wish you all the best for Friday x

Thank you for your advice I’m actually very nervous about the mirena coil I’ve been on prostap injections on and off for the last 3 years which did help with the pain. I’m so pleased you had a good experience and continue to be well X
Not at all, hope it all goes really well. It will probably be a bit rough for a few days then it's just a case of taking it easy and building your strength back up. In a few months it will just be a memory. Good luck xx
