I finally have a date for my hysterectomy 21st November, my emotions are up and down.
I will ask at my pre op but anyone have any ideas how long I will have to stay in hospital for ? Is it day surgery ? Am on the morning list so was hoping I would be home by tea time or early evening.
Any tips on help with recovery I would appreciate.

I had my hysterectomy 1st April this year, I had everything removed…..ovaries, tubes, cervix and uterus. I had the uterus removed vaginally and the rest via laparoscopic surgery. I stayed one night they wanted me to stay another night but the bed was broken so I was in more pain trying to rest on that so I asked to go home on the 2nd day which was fine but I was in a lot of pain so it was a shock when hospital meds had worn off.
What are you having removed? That will depend how long you stay also if you have to have an abdominal hysterectomy you would be in for longer some can be 5 days but it depends on the individual and how the surgery goes how you feel and recover. Just don’t rush this recovery it’s a big surgery please so rest and take it very easy as it was w big shock for me but it does ease in time just baby steps.

As am aware every but keeping the ovaries.. I will rest am up and down at min with my emotions but need it doing.
How long after would you say you felt back to your self or some form of your self xx
well I have a lot of other health issues so I wouldn’t go by me as I found the back pain hard but I also have osteoporosis I was 35 at the time of hysterectomy now 36 but it did take me 8 weeks before I even went in the car as I found that hurt a lot as a passenger. Walking was a slow build up but by 8 weeks I could walk similar to what I used to however I was far from normal everyone is different it definitely took 3 months till I could move like I used to and wasn’t scared of making things worse etc. i didn’t really leave the house much for the first 4 weeks I would walk round the garden then in the close then down the road etc to slowly build it up as you can’t rush. I only took paracetamol for the recovery so some can do more if you take stronger meds and are healthier in the first place but I was very week only 8 weeks after my bowel endo surgery I had the hysterectomy and I have other bowel health issues so it’s been a battle. The hysterectomy didn’t help me but I am a bit of an odd case as non of my endo surgeries have helped me so try not to go by what everyone else does at each stage just do what feels right for you.
Hystersisters website is a good one for advice to check when you feel things that worry you etc. like I started bleeding a lot after 2 weeks but spoke to my consultant and others via hystersisters and on here and my consultant said it was the vaginal stitches dissolving and it was normal so there are things that happen and it’s a worry so it’s good to have different places to turn for advice xx
I was out the next day. Total hysterectomy. I’d definitely recommend getting a pair or two of comfy dungarees or jumper dresses a size or two up. Ask whomever is collecting you from hospital to bring a pillow for your tummy to protect from seatbelt. Also get a load of easy cook meals in the freezer and I do recommend getting out some clothing ready for the first few days at home so you’re not constantly asking someone to help you. Take your recovery very seriously and do not try to rush it! It was the best thing I ever did!! Try not to worry too much. Best of luck x

I know I need to rest and let my body recovery but also need to not be off work for months as I have heard some people have.
Snap! I’m on 25th November, full hysterectomy open surgery - I have been told I could be in hospital 3 nights and recovery time between 6 to 8 weeks….I can’t believe it’s really going to happen. Im 43 and have suffered with painful periods since I was 13. Diagnosed 10 years ago and I have never had a procedure only treatment was the pill and hormone injection both did not work. So if this works it will change my life for the better and I sincerely hope the same happens for you Bassem1979 ❤️

Am also 43 and really hoping this changes everything for me. Am same as you though can’t believe it’s happening.
I was told I was having key hole so hope that is the same on the day.. got pre op on the 14th.

I had a complete vaginal hysterectomy 3 years ago at the age of 79.I was in and out on the same day.I felt well following instructions of no heavy lifting but I think I tried to do too much too soon probably because the surgeon said not to wrap myself in cotton wool but continue to live normally! Big mistake accept all the help you can get.
hi Bassem, wishing you luck with yours. Mine was 9th November then that was cancelled now it's 29th November.. not holding out much hope that it won't be cancelled again. I hade rheumatoid arthritis so I can't inject, as I've been poorly with various infections in my pelvis RA is all over the place. Wishing you lots of luck for yours xx

I had full hysterectomy on 5th October was in hospital 2 nights and sent home with hrt gel and strong pain relief, hope all goes well for youx

I am doing OK still a little sore but stitches have healed. Just have to listen to your body and take it easy . I no if I have done too much feel sore and really tired.
hey! I had a full hysterectomy on 8th August and was in hospital for one night. Was sent home with painkillers and started the HRT gel. Make sure you wear something really easy and baggy for putting on when you go home. In terms of recovery as everyone says it’s about rest and trying to do a little walking when you can, building up as you can. Hope it all goes well x
