Post Op Incisions - normal sounding or not?

Hi all,

I finally got my lap 13 days ago after being on the waiting list for over a year. They did find endo and used diathermy (I don't know much beyond that until post op consult next month)

I'm just wondering at the moment about the incisions. I was fortunate enough to only have two. The lower one has been fine - dry with some bruising but about as you'd expect.

The main one though I'm wondering about. I'm now starting to think it was actually infected and that maybe I've managed to fight the infection off.

From day 2 or 3 it had the most *awful* smell. I really do mean terrible. I now realise I should have acted on this but I feel guilty about bothering anyone. Over that weekend (and isn't it always weekend for this kind of thing!) I had weird heart issues with a heart rate around the 130 mark at rest. That thankfully went down over a couple of days and is back to normal now.

The smell is still there a little with the incision but has gradually become less and less. But there is still a small amount of clear-ish discharge. Is that normal after nearly 2 weeks? When I change the dressing (had to buy more as they only gave me 3 and its been a bit too 'leaky' not to change it) theres a yellow/green-ish stain on the dressing (sorry I know this is gross) but it's not like pus. Just a slightly coloured discharge.

Not sure what to make of it?

Hi Bunny. Sounds to me like it's infected. One of my incisions was leaking yellow pus, only a small amount, and it was sore to touch. My GP put me on a course of antibiotics and it cleared up in a week. Give them a ring, it's what they're there for!

Thank you Kricam. I guess I could, I just don't want to waste their time when they're so busy. I'll feel so guilty and stupid if it's not infected and I wasted their time
