Ovarian cyst

Hi guys

I am new on here so would appreciate any replies/advice.

I went for an ultrasound last year as I kept feeling period like cramps on my abs and they found a 5cm cyst on my ovary. I went to see my gynaecologist for the first time and he recommended laparoscopy straight away but I was too scared then and he advised that he’ll keep a watch on the cyst to see if it’ll get bigger. Cut long story short I moved out of the area and didn’t go to my follow up scans until august this year when I finally managed to signed myself up a new GP. She referred me to have another ultrasound scan and found that the cyst had grown by 1cm. GP said she would refer me to a gynaecologist (a new one) and I didn’t get contacted until end of November where I had a another scan and the cyst had grown by another 2cm. So it is now 8cm big. Had 2 blood tests so far and they said all looked normal but after the last scan my gynaecologist now sending me for an MRI scan with IV which I’m really scared about as never had one before and worried that the cyst is cancerous. She said she’ll need to get the scan done to determine whether to do a cut or laparoscopy depending on how the cyst had grown.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey!

Hope you are ok! I’ve had ovarian cysts for many years now, and only something was really done & investigated by my fertility doctor, who was amazing! I decided the same approach and not do surgery at first, they were only small under 4cm, however had quite bad pain & ended up in a & e and they said it had grown to 5cm, but didn’t seem concerned. Me and my fertility doctor agreed surgery was the best option, but before surgery I had another scan to check the size and it came back one of the cysts looked suspicious, and I needed a urgent MRI & bloods done, cut a long story short, the cyst was endo & nothing cancerous, I however still had it removed in September and I am doing fine. 8cm is quite big are you suffering with a lot of pain? Xx

Hi! Thank you for replying. I don’t really have much pain with it except from the on and off cramps on my abs and upper thigh. They come and go and not causing me much issues but I’m just worried about the scan and what it’ll show. I am also on the mini pill but I tried coming off it few months ago to take a break and I suffered really bad pain to the point I couldn’t walk so I went back on it again

Hi. Sorry you’re going through this. Just to let you know I have a similar story. I’m terrified of anything medical but actually coped ok with the MRI. The cannula is ok - drink lots of water a few days before as helps if you’re hydrated for the nurse doing it. The mri is loud but they play music to help with that. I found lying still for almost an hour the hardest part as got pins and needles. Honestly you will cope better than you think. I’m still waiting for next appt after mri confirmed endo so can’t offer any advice on the surgery element. X
