I had my lap in February and have been on deprovera ever since which helped with the pain but I bled constantly. I had the coil fitted on Monday under general and the pain is unreal I went back to work yesterday but had to have today off. I really want to give it a go, but the pain when a cramp comes on is horrific? Anyone able to offer peace of mind that this will get better, they said it was supposed to be uncomfortable but iv been on my hands and knees doubled over more of today then standing up! I’m taking ibuprofen and Buscopan but don’t really handle stronger pain killers well, hot water bottle does help when I’m sitting down
Thanks in advance

I had the same. I had a GA just to have the coil in and I was in agony for 3 weeks before it stated to ease off, I was living on codeine, paracetamol and mefanemic acid.
I'd recommend getting it checked at your gp sooner than the 6-8 weeks to check that they can still find the strings, just encase. They may do what they did with me because I was still in so much pain after a couple of weeks they sent me for an ultrasound scan to check it hadn't moved about or anything, as the coil strings only tell some of the story. Fortunately it all came back fine and all in place etc.
I'm now about 6 weeks on an it's really settled down my comparison just niggling pains now. But I considered getting it removed in those first couple of weeks, but as options are limited (tried a bunch of pills had excision surgery last year and only have minimal endo) and because I went through a GA to get the coil I persevered longer than I probably would have if I'd just had it done at my Dr's. As I thought I went through all of that, all that waiting for appointments and preop and then finally 2 surgery dates (one was cancelled on the day due to staff illness). I figured I'd give it 1 month and off out hasn't eased at all I'd go back to my gp. By that point it has eased I was still getting pains but not as severe so kept with it
Thanks so much for replying I had quite a good day today till this evening now I’m crippled I think I’ll ring the hospital tomorrow to see if I can get some stronger painkillers and to double check all is okay xx
I’ve had my coil in for three months and so far things haven’t settled down for me. The consultant said that it takes 4-6 months to settle down completely. I’m on 500mg of naproxen twice a day, and it does help with the pain so I can actually function.
Something I got told in A&E by an on-call specialist really helped me to make peace with the pain. She said that the coil is something foreign, that your body knows shouldn’t be in there, so it’s trying to get rid of it, and that’s where all the pain is coming from.
I think it affects everyone differently, and I’m in it for the long haul, but my coil is still in place. Of course you can get it removed at any point if it’s not working out for you.
Thank you, my poor body has probably had enough with what iv put it through this year but laying here now I am overcome in pain. I dont think there’s anything wrong just like period pain but it comes on when I move around or do some cleaning. Pain killers might be the way forward I’m only on ibuprofen atm. Thank you for your comment xx
