How long does a Mirena last for pain relief

So I know for contraception that the Mirena can last 5 years

It seems my endo symptoms return after approx 3 and a half years

This is my 3 Mirena

Should I push for a new one ?

Mirena coil has only a local action ( progestogenic) on the uterus. It doesnt cure endometriosis. However has some suppressive action on adenomyosis

Yes adenomyosis is a type of local endometriosis affecting uterine muscle. Also the endometrium could be thick or abnormal

Hi Scarlett,

I have also experienced this and it was resolved by an early coil change at around 3 years. The amount of levonorgestrel released by the coil decreases over the 5 year period - the dose is much higher in the first couple of years and then it gradually falls over the next 3. I didn’t realise this until I experienced a return of symptoms and did some research online.

Had lots of pain and sore boobs ie like my body is going through a monthly cycle

Not had this for a few years

Coil change is worth a try

That was my experience too. I always have some symptoms but better with Mirena. About 3 and a half years the symptoms started going back to what they were.

I got a new coil and it has settled back down
