Period pain after lap?

Hi

I’m 4 weeks after my lap after having endo removed and a very large fibroid removed and just started my first period.

The pain I’m in is pretty bad, really bloated too and o think my heavy periods may be coming back ☹️

I’m now getting worried that the surgery may not have helped all my issues which means I could be back at square one again.

Can anyone tell me is this normal? My specialist said to me that he really felt that after the surgery I’d notice a difference... I’ve tried not to get my hopes up as I’ve struggled for three years to be taken seriously, been Mia diagnosed and on my third consultant due to the other two telling me there wasn’t much they could do! My current consultant has actually has listened to me and seems very understanding.

I just want to cry as I just want my life back after having to plan around my heavy periods! :(

It can be normal, a week after I had my diagnostic lap my period came and it was the worst period of my life, it was heavy, so many clots (sorry tmi) and lasted ages. I remembering reading a lot of other girls on this forum experiencing the same thing too. Hopefully it’s just your body getting into check from after the surgery and it’ll get better from there

Thank you so much for your response. Have yours got better since the first one? X

I had a period from hell after my laparoscopy. I sat a cried, I was in so much pain and was taking 3 different painkillers 6 tablets each time every 4 to 6 hours and it didn't even take the edge off the pain. I bled so heavily, I was totally not expecting this. But after seeing my consultant he said it was normal, as he had a good poke around and dealt with endo while he was in there also removed an endometrioma.

Hope you get some relief xxx

Thank you so much for responding to me I really appreciate it. I’ve had a terrible nights sleep due to the pain and also heavy bleeding... it’s like I’m worse not at all better and feeling like I just wasted my 4 weeks and shouldn’t have gone for the surgery!

I totally was t expecting this either :(

Have yours improved since the first one... I so need a glimmer of hope right now as before my operation I had so many issues and a huge struggle to get someone to take me seriously I was almost at the point of giving up with the drs as no one was listening to me. X

My symptoms were certainly worse after lap but I'm only 5 weeks post lap so not had second period yet. However do persevere as it does get better.. I was exactly like you feeling my symptoms were a million times worse after the lap, things do settle. Something that i was repeatedly told was that whilst the external incision heals, the internal healing can take a long time.. I truly believe this. Whilst I am still in pain but this is no where near as bad as it was initially after the lap and I have noted my symptoms have improved somewhat since before the lap also.

One of the biggest challenges can be getting professionals to listen. I went to the GP several times for a multitude of symptoms over a space of 6 months, when he said on my final visit that I was stressing too much as my tests were all clear. I gave up, I know my body, i know when something is wrong, booked to see an amazing gynaecologists privately who listened and acted fast, who arranged tests an the same day and 7 days later I had my answer, I wasn't going mad but rather ended up on the ovarian cancer pathway due to test results and and booked for urgent surgery in 2 weeks later!

Hi,

I am also worried about this and posted something similar last week. I’ve been on the pill since the lap in August. My period started over a week ago and I’ve been in horrific pain. One of the worse pain episodes I ever been through. It’s worrying especially when you’ve been told that the endo has been removed. Can’t say I’m feeling great about. It’s still going on now but the pain has reduced. Someone told me that I shouldn’t be in that much pain and it’s not normal which I keep thinking about. I don’t have a follow up until Feb and the GP won’t help as under the consultant. I hope you are feeling better soon x

Hi lucie

Sorry to read you are suffering too... it’s miserable!

Which pill are you on it may not be any use to you but I had to go on cerelle before my lap, I did have the coil fitted but it had almost been pushed out by a extremely large fibroid so they put me back on a pill until my operation.

For me it had a bad effect on me I bled for 26 days which led me up to my operation. My consultant told me that cerelle had a bad effect on me and to stop it and he will not allow me back on it for that reason.

I’m going to have another coil put in but he’s told me I need to fully heal internally before I can have it,

I just wish he’d told me this could happen as it’s really upset me re the pain and thinking that he’s removed the endo I thought things might be better for me.

I’m so sorry you are suffering too and your GO won’t help... can you try speaking to your consultant secretary for an earlier appointment? X

it sounds like this is very normal. Your body heals at its own pace after surgery and may take a bit. I had been continually on the pill (skipping period week off, on Apri) for one month when I had my lap but I was still spotting. The spotting was incredibly painful 😣. It took me taking the pill for 3 months straight to finally stop with breakthrough bleeding and now I feel like I deal with 90-95% less pain. So hang in there, stay positive, and patient with your body healing. I’d bet you that your surgery was worth it and it could be worth a shot avoiding a period with your BC. I never thought I would try that but this plus surgery/removal was so helpful and has changed my life! I’m hoping you feel better and better, wishing you the very best❤️
