Sayana press injection for endo.

I’ve been given the sayana press injection for endometriosis pain as the previous contraception didn’t work and I just bled of consistently.

Has anyone else taken this and did it work for them?

Also I have a calcium defincency and wondered how anyone else reacted with this contraception injection as a side effect is osteoporosis.

Hi, just wondering how you got on with Sayana press? Realise your post was a long time ago and you didn’t get any replies. I have just started taking it today. Hope it helped you.

Hi .. I was given this on prescription, first two months I bled on and off for weeks with occasional cramps the last month I had it this reduced.

I still had pains but instead of lasting for days they only lasted a few hours and taking naproxen also helped.

My last prescription i couldn’t get the sayana press as the whole batch had been recalled due to an error within it, so I had to go to the sexual health clinic to get the depo injection.

When doing this, I asked the doctor why I had a large dip in my stomach where I had put the injection. She said that is a side effect of the injection. I now have a lump under my skin and a big dip in my stomach which is hideous.

I will never take it again. I’ve taken the depo which the dr injected and I felt better off this it made my periods almost stop, however due to the covid-19 I havnt been able to get my injection that was due feb27 but I still have not had a period but getting ovary pain now and again.

Sorry a lot I know. If you are taking the injection do it in your thigh and just remember you may get life long indentation is you skin.

Thanks for the advice. I have just taken it for the first time in my stomach :( I hope to return to the depo in 3 months but we don’t know how long the lockdown will go on for. Sorry to hear you are left with that problem with your stomach. Do you mind if I ask what you hope to use instead of the depo whilst we have the lockdown? I thought the best alternative was the Sayana press but perhaps you have thought of something else? x

I was trying to upload a picture of the indentation that the sayana press has made but it doesn’t allow me to do it. I hope it doesn’t effect you in the same way.

I’m not to sure what to do regarding the depo as yet, I can’t take the tablet form as they just make me worse. I’m a little stuck 😢. Did you get your injection via your gp of the sexual health clinic? Xx

Hi, I got both the depo (prior to lockdown) and Sayana press from my Gp practice, prescribed. I went on a big search for a clinic (private and nhs) but no one was willing to give me the depo at the moment. If you search on this forum though, I believe there were 1 or 2 ladies who said they were given the depo so it could depend on area and how assertive you are! The POP made my symptoms worse too. I hope you get the Depo or find a good alternative if not x
