Hello lady's

I've been told when I have my lap, that they'll also fit the coil as it releases the hormon within you and this may help with my endo.

Does any one have or has had the coil, and what are your views on it?

Hi, I had a coil fitted separately years after my lap. The coil can mess you about for a bit 6months mine did but after that 8 years pain free no endo symptoms as all only took it out to try for a baby. Bleeding can be on off, my boobs were different bigger and more solid, keep and eye on your weight and mine could go in and down very quickly. Good luck xXx

Hi, I had a lap just over a week ago and I had the mirena coil fitted during surgery. I had refused for 3.5 years give or take due to the horror stories I had heard about them. I’d exhausted all other medication avenues after having laps and inbetween for my endo, I have mild-moderate but extremely symptomatic.

So I had the lap and a few days of serious cramps! Could of been mix both laparoscopy cramps + mirena... Then eased off day 4 and I though ahh a rest! day 5 Christmas Eve I ended up at a&e had cramping from 12.30pm and by 7 I couldn’t cope I thought it may be dislodged or something (I think I was more feared due to the stories I’d read) went to a&e and the strings where in place all good. Turns out I had a infection post op and also my bowels wherent opening very well which didn’t help. 7 days antibiotics and the severe cramps haven’t come back.

I just have mild cramping each day... paracetamol and ibuprofen helps. I hope fingers crossed it stays this way, Iv had some spots on my chest other than that no other side effects so far so good!! I’m pleased.

Don’t read the stories and don’t give out on it - we are all different I learnt my lesson. My consultant also told me that with the mirena being placed within your uterus it works better for people who’ve previously had side effects of progesterone only pills = me. I had abnormal bleeding horrendously and had to stop both times I tried. It’s because your whole body doesn’t have to absorb the pill before it gets to your uterus where it only needs to work!

I had my Mirena fitted during my lap in 2014. I've had it for 5 years in Feb. I've had about 3 fairly decent years out of 5 with mine - something I've very recently been told is usual for endo sufferers.

As GlitterandSparkle said make sure you stick with it and give it a good chance. I had various issues with mine for the first 12 months, on and off and was constantly bleeding to start with. When mine was working fully then the pain was far, far less and so was the bleeding.

Mine has been "playing up" for 6 months or so now as it's coming to the end of 5 years - lots of varying symptoms which include a few associated with pregnancy and I did gain weight at the start as well which I've found hard to lose.

Despite mine not settling and causing some issues I have to say that it has helped massively in reducing pain and bleeding. Everyone feels differently about Mirena and you really do need to stick with it and give it 6 months to settle fully.

Hi I've had the Mirena fitted and so far so good. My skin hasn't been great. I've put on weight but I think that's the result of too many mince pies. I had read horror stories but I thought it couldn't be much worse than what I have to put up with my endo. So thought it was worth a punt and so far so good. Small bit of bleeding which I'm sure most would think was period like but got me it's the lightest bleed ever compared to past periods.

It rather depends on how much you know and have had explained to you, and it depends if you have already had any Endo removed in an earlier lap. It also depends on which coil they mean. The Mirena coil is best for Endo as it only releases a progesterone type substance, which is the best for calming Endo. Ordinary contraceptive coils also have oestrogen, and if you do have Endo, then you don't want more oestrogen in your system.

However, I would ask for a lot more information - they should have told you more and given you explanatory leaflets.

Also, is this your first lap? Is it supposed to be a diagnostic lap, or have you already had Endo absolutely confirmed by a previous diagnostic lap? Unless your endo is very simple and sparse, I would expect a diagnostic lap, with - maybe - removal of easy to find, identify and remove Endo. Any Endo in difficult areas (eg on the bowel), or certain types of 'hard to identify endo', or if they cannot even check certain areas of the abdominal cavity for Endo - should all mean that they leave your Endo to be removed by specialist 'Endo' teams, in BSGE Centres. Your GP should have a copy of the official 'protocol' for dealing with Endo - ask about it.

I would read everything that it says on the 'Endo UK' website - details above - they host this site on 'Health Unlocked' - and also talk to their advisors. Endo is complex, and even some general Gynaes don't know enough about it, so I would ask a lot more.

I had the Mirena fitted for six months and pretty much hated every moment if it. My body's reaction seems to be different from other people's- my endo pain got much much worse, my periods became much heavier, I had fainting episodes that had never happened before and I actually lost a dangerous amount of weight. I coped for six months until one night I went to a and e and begged them to remove it. I then went onto Cerazette that suited me much better - without gap weeks so no periods for years! Absolute bliss!
