Coping until surgery

Hi all,

Ive finally been putting on the waiting list for a laparoscopy to see what's going on and remove the Endo. I got diagnosed 2 years ago during an ovarian cyst removal and wasn't really symptomatic at the time so nothing done.

Now I'm in pain everyday and its really bad, I'm not sure how long it will be before surgery but I just don't know how to cope until then.

Im taking codeine and ibuprofen when the pain is bad but sometimes if I don't catch it in time it won't get rid of it, I'm allergic to paracetamol so can't take that.

Work have been helpful and I work from home a couple of days a week but I'm still really struggling, I feel like I could just stay in bed 24 hours a day.

Any recommendations on how to get through the day? Should I just take the full dose of painkillers to keep it at bay?

Hello is there any way of finding out what surgical list they have put you on? I asked at my gynaecologist appointment and I have been put on the urgent list which is a 12 week list. I know how you feel as all you want is a date of when you are going in. Hope it’s soon for you. As for daily ways to cope, I am probably not the best person to advise as I struggle too x

hi. How are you doing? I know exactly how you feel, just getting up some days was to much with the pain.

a few things that helped me, ask to be seen by the pain team, they went through the meds and explained the best way of taking them to keep on top of my pain most of the time ( still had bad days but managed some comfortable ones to). The guy I saw was brilliant and said his role is to make day to day life more comfortable and possible whilst dealing with chronic pain. Diet was a factor, I just can't do pizza, pasta in any form and have to be really careful with bread and sweet treats even now I can eat something and be in agony an hour or two later. Are you seeing an endometriosis specialist? The one I saw looked at my meds list and said that some were irritating my insides and making it worse, a change and a few weeks to adjust and I had an improvement. Hot water bottles and lemon and ginger tea helped as a side line. I hope something here can help as I know how draining being in pain all the time is. Hope you have a date for the operation soon. Xx
