Period not started after laparoscopy / intermittent prickly stabbing pain - almost 3 weeks on.

I recently had laparoscopy/hysteroscopy to remove multiple fibroids and ovarian cysts (for fertility reasons) on the right ovary they found stage 3 endometriosis and the ovary was stuck to the pelvic side wall as well as some minor endometriosis throughout the pelvis. I had a good surgeon and all seems to have gone as well as it could have done. My period which is never late is now 7 days late and I get prickly stabbing type pains which seem to come on when I eat or move about - is this really still the gas from the surgery (some 2.5 weeks ago) or just the bowels settling back down? Just wanted to ask is this familiar to anyone else on here?

Thanks RoseM6, it's so helpful to get your response! First time I've posted and it's such a lovely feeling to hear back from someone!! I also had to chuckle when you said missing a period was 'awesome'!! ;-)

I think in the build up to the surgery I was under enormous stress - not sleeping, etc. The surgery took place right in the 3-day ovulation window - so I don't know if this has affected things because of that timing? Perhaps the body just skips because of the trauma of surgery?

I have nothing nasty they told me to look out for - urinary infections, high temp, and the external wounds healed up so fast - so definitely no infection.

In the pre-op assessment I found out I was anaemic prior to surgery so I'm taking iron and have changed my diet quite a bit - I did stop the iron one day to try and test the theory it might be the iron tablets, but the pain was still there on and off.

I saw the doctor yesterday - she reduced my iron tablets to one a day, suggested I might be pregnant and to test (I sooo wish, but I'm not! That might be a little impossible bearing in mind they also flushed my tubes, etc.) - she suggested it must be post-surgery healing - but I got the impression that was a bit of standard answer!

It's really taken a lot out of me - I still don't feel normal! Even walking up the stairs exhausts me!! I'm due back in work on Monday so I hope this week things really start to get a lot better!!

Thanks again for your lovely message! :-)

Hi Rose,

Just to say thanks again for reassuring everything’s normal - the 6 week timeframe is interesting insight.

My consultant also said what I’m experiencing is normal outcome of surgery (post op pain/tiredness) and no period is entirely normal as well! Somewhere I read it could be delayed up to 4-6 weeks. I guess I should count my blessings there’s not a hideous bleed and further cramps to contend with!!!

I can relate to the fact that with periods your body just does it’s own thing.... whether it’s personally convenient or not!! (Including that scare with the ex bf! 😳🙈)

Feeling fewer pains as the week has progressed - so will try and restart work gradually this week! 🤞

Thanks again and I hope all is going ok for you right now! 😊

I had pain after my third laparoscopy but my period was on time. Luckily the surgeon had given me morphine to take home which I was grateful for!

I also had my endo removed for fertility reasons & my endo symptoms were horrific.

The surgery did the trick as I’m 5 weeks pregnant ( cautious as we had a chemical pregnancy last year but hopeful) Everything crossed your surgery does the job 😘✨❤️ xoxo

Hi Jess, that’s incredible news that the laparoscopy worked and you’re now pregnant!! Brilliant result!! So happy for you! 🤗👍

I was very anxious prior to surgery - but the clinicians said it was essential it was done as everything I had (i.e. cysts, fibroids, endometrioma) could all effect the success of the IVF.

I’d love to have some luck now too! 🤞The consultant gave me fairly low odds, but actually said there was a possibility I could fall pregnant naturally, now things were all cleared up .... so albeit painful it will hopefully be worth it! 🤞🤞

Thank you for your encouragement! xx ❤️

It’s great all the potential obstacles are removed- I’m sure it’ll help you get your BFP. 🙂 wishing you every success & hope you get good news soon 😘 xoxo
