Right sided pelvic pain

Hi all, I have never used a community website before for help but have been struggling with this for a while now and was hoping to find someone who may have experienced something similar.

I'm 28 yo and for the past nearly 2 months I have been have lower right side pelvic pain. It's not agonising pain but its always there. It feels different from day to day, sometimes like a prickly pain between my leg and public bone, other times like a twinge or stabbing pain near my right ovary. The pain can be worse if I sit or stand for a long time or put pressure on the area. Sometimes it is also in my lower right back and hip, and even down the inside of my right thigh.

I have taken multiple trips to my GP who has given me urine and smear tests which all came back clear. I was give antibiotics and sent on my way. In blind panic after 3 days with no improvement I went to A&E where they completed more urine tests, blood test, and an ultrasound. They said that my inflammation markers were high in my blood but have come down after taking the antibiotics. Nothing unusual showed up on my ovaries, uterus, or cervix in the ultrasound but I'm unsure what this could reveal anyway. 7 weeks on and the pain is still there.

My GP has referred me for an emergence CT scan because the pain is waking me up at night and making me extremely anxious. That was 3 weeks ago and I phoned the hospital who said they haven't received a referral so I feel a bit stranded.

My periods over the past 4-5 months have also been becoming increasingly brown in colour and more thick. My last period after taking the antibiotics seemed a improved, more red like it always was before. I've always had extreme period pains to the point where if I don't take a concoction of pain killers I feel like I will pass out.

I know a few friends who have endometriosis but no family. No history or serious illness in the family. But I'm very concerned that it may be something serious.

Anyone else experience anything like this before? Thanks in advance!

Hi there, I was diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease in dec 2015 via ultrasound they found fluid on my right tube. If I were you and knowing everything I've gone and still going through. I would get an appointment with your local Genito Urinary Clinic to check for any and all infections it may be. If it comes back clear then ask ypur GP to refer you again to a gyne. Then on explain your symptoms. You may have to have a lap which would diagnose PID or endo. Ypur symptoms sound familiar to mine. I had pain waking me up also. I know you have had a scan but unless yoyr tubes have fluid in them or you have cysts on your ovaries or enlarged genitalia PID or endo won't show on a scan. You can get PID not just from an std but bacteria in your cervix which travels up. Are you wanting kids? Have you had an HSG test done to check if ypur tubes are functioning? Please read my posts also. Any questions please message me sweetie x

Hi there Boodie. Thank you for your reply.

I had a smear test completed by my GP which tested came back as negative for any unusual bacteria. My partner any I have been together exclusively for 7 years so I'm not sure if it would not be an STI as we have now both been tested. Do you know how they would test for other causes on PID?

I have never had a HSG test before but I definitely want to have kids. We have not tried yet but possibly will in the next few years.

When I had the smear test the doctor also treatment me with antibiotics for for pelvic infection and some STIs as a precaution (metronidazole and doxycycline). I was on a heavy does of both for 2 week but the symptoms have persisted.

Today has been a particularly uncomfortable pain in my right side. I will also check out your posts :)

Thank you again

Hi There - Your symptoms sound really similar to mine. I've had the same nagging pain on my right lower pelvis for months combined with a change in my periods and other gynae symptoms which were unusual for me. About 2 months ago the pain came to a head and got to the worst it's ever been. I called 111 and was told to go to A & E and then admitted onto gynae. My GP had also given me antibiotics incase I had PID but the symptoms persisted and that was ruled out. The Gynae consultant on the ward told me I had a small chocolate cyst on the left ovary and that the pain on the right was probably endometriosis. I'm now waiting for a laparoscopy to remove the cyst and any endo. I've been off work for about 6 weeks now and I've been advised not to go back until I've had the lap as the nature of the pain is that it doesn't seem to bad then all of a sudden will flare up. Or that I'll have a really good morning or day and then a terrible afternoon or next day. I really feel for you going through this, a lack of empathy/understanding from doctors doesn't help either. For the pain I've been taking cocodomol and voltarol suppositories which although don't take the pain away completely do relieve it better than anything else I've tried. I also have acupuncture and Chinese medicine. I take Turmeric, NAC and Zinc supplements which I've been told help with inflammation and detoxifying. They are also helping. Has your GP referred you to gynea? If not it may be worth asking.

Take care, L x
