Just diagnosed......

Hi, I hope everyone is doing ok. I'm looking for a bit of online support with my issue.

About 2 years ago when I was 49 I started to have very infrequent pain at night in my right groin/pelvic area. It wouldn't last long at all... minutes rather than hours. Occassionally it would happen in the day... it was related to my monthly cycle... Moving on two years the pain has got considerably worse in terms of duration and feeling. Again, I can't link it to my monthly cycle and now the pain is just constant... day and night - right sided groin pain... dull aching deep deep inside. Sometimes the pain radiates towards my tummy button and up to my rib cage... but predominately is always right sided groin. 4 ultrasound scans in the last two years say endemetriosis inflammation right ovary. My question is however, why have i never had abnormal bleeding between periods, and why is the pain all the time now and why at such a late stage in my life am I only getting the problems now? :( Feeling really fed up as I'm taking Naproxen but to no avail. I've been offered either a hysterectomy or try drug therapy 'Zoladex'..... comments would be very welcome.

Thanks

x

Hi,

I was diagnosed 4 years ago, aged 43 and had 2 laps and last year emergency lap for appendicitis (prob as a result of endo too as appendix fused to bowel :/) The pain is predominant on right lower groin. Are you under a Gynae? I get seen 3-6 months, scanned etc and have mirena to hopefully curb cycle until menopause.

Currently an mri has shown bowel fused to ovarian scarring/endo in lower right side as 3 laps means scarring on scarring on scarring. My option is to live with pain from fused bowel forever or do radical hysterectomy and the bowel will need repair and then I get a stoma ://

I very rarely take pain killers as although pain is often severe, as you say it lasts minutes rather than hours.

Hopefully you can speak to Doctor or Gynae soon to get a treatment plan?

In meantime make sure your digestive system is calm and perhaps cut foods and drink which seem to make it worse?

:)

Many thanks for replying. Really appreciate it. I’m under a gyny and going on 20 March to discuss treatment plan. Terrified to make a choice as perhaps just doing nothing and putting up is the best option.....

Hi There,

I was on Zolodez last year for 6 months and found it pretty brutal as far as the side effects go. The menopausal symptoms were really hard to manage, particularly not being able to sleep properly because of the night sweats. I also experienced migraines very frequently, mood swings, nausea etc. It made normal everyday life very difficult. In saying that though, I did have some success once I went in for another lap to see if had worked, but I am still experiencing difficult periods due so I’m trying to figure out what to do. I’m only just about to turn 31 so I really don’t want a hysterectomy at this stage, Incase I can still have a baby. I’m not sure where you are at with that, but it might be really worth considering an hysterectomy as an option, just so you don’t have to live your life in so much constant pain.

I hope this has helped a little, it’s just so hard to make decisions sometimes, I feel your pain!!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Really appreciate your comments. I swing from going for zoladex tonhackng husterectomy to doing nothing at all. Just can’t decide what would be best. Just want to be normal and not have this issue to deal with. Xxx

Hi, I’m the same age as you and have declined zoladex. No one has ever suggested a hysterectomy, but I’d decline that too! I’ve been using the Mirena coil for years. I’m wondering why no one has suggested that as an option? It’s a very common treatment for endo. I chose it as it’s a low dose hormone.

Do you think you have started the menopause? My endo got worse about 2 years ago as I started. Just thinking that might be why your symptoms have suddenly come on. If that was the reason, it should improve as your oestrogen naturally tails off. I think my symptoms have started to improve after a rocky couple of years.

Hi. Thanks so much for replying. Much appreciated. Maybe the coil is the way I should go. Sitting here with deep stabbing sore pain atm!! Thanks again x

Or maybe consider the progesterone only pill? If the flare up in your symptoms is connected to menopause, you might only need it short term. The Mirena is a longer term treatment. It seems to work best for women who have had children. It’s harder to tolerate if you haven’t.
