Hi all, I was due to have a lap today and it was cancelled at 5pm yesterday. It's the 2 nd time it's been cancelled... So upset as I have booked time off work, rearranged work in January. And pain is just getting worse. They have no idea when it will be rebooked. Then said they can cancel as many times as they want to. Has anyone got any advice on what I can do, or got experience of this. It's the Chester Countess if anyone has the same experience. I'm not sure what to do with the pill as stopped taking it 2 weeks ago? X
Cancelled again...: Hi all, I was due to... - Endometriosis UK
Cancelled again...
Oh no, you poor thing, this is so wronge, can't beleave they can do this, it's hard enough to get on with life with endo as it is, without mucking you around on top, hopefully won't be too long await, but no you will just be scared that it will be cancelled again,
Sending good wishes, just have a good Christmas and try not to think to much
Xx
I had mine cancelled the first time as I had a temp and the second time 3 hours before I was meant to be there. They had no beds. The third time I waited 3 weeks for the lap and they had a period of 4 weeks I think it was under the Nhs guidelines to give me an appointment and make sure the op was carried out as it was their fault I was cancelled. Also with the Nhs they have an 18 week pathway they stick too for treatment. What reason did they give you for the cancellation? And how long ago in weeks did you see your consultant and say yes to the operation? They have 18 weeks from then but you should have the op on the next appointment they give you as they get into serious trouble for not (I work for the Nhs) and if it's a reason like mine they get around 4 weeks to do the op. See nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2563.aspx?...
Hi. The reason was lack of theatre space and beds. I mentioned the 18 week rule to the admissions team. But they said that is only a guideline....I saw the consultant start of July. I rang PALS yesterday too and they said the same. . It seems there is nothing I can do, but wait for a new date.
Hi, I saw my consultant in July ( took ages to see him 8 months) that's when I signed the laparoscopy consent from. I told them about the 18 week rule when I didn't have an original date. The admissions team said they don't have to stick to that. That went out with the Labour government....even though it's on the website. They said it was a lack of beds, with emergency patients requiring them. I have no date yet, but have been advised by them in could happen again.
My op was cancelled too. I was due to get it on 1 Dec and they cancelled on 27 Nov the excuse was the winter crisis. I've been on the urgent list from June and have to get a full abdomen hysterectomy and endo of the bowel too!
I am so sorry. Have you had another date. It feels like we are the bottom of the pile
When my op was cancelled on the day, they had to rearrange another operation within 28days from this date as they had cancelled on the day of the operation and it was their fault. I had already waited 17.5 weeks to get to the surgery date as it was! Basically I rang the secretary everyday and at first they tried to fob me off with a new surgery date 6 weeks later. I said not acceptable and not within the 28days. So then they tried to offer me another consultant who wasn't a specialist. I declined. Eventually they got me in two weeks later, different consultant, but still a specialist.
Do look up the NHS guidelines for cancelling operations. Ring the secretary and keep pestering and complaining, shout if you need to, and get it taken to the secretary's boss or higher (this worked for me, as led to meetings to get me in within those 28 days)
Good luck and I really hope you get your operation soon and your pain under control. Xx
Ps. I'm not sure, but if they give you less than 24hours notice of cancellation you might have the same 28days rule?? Please look into it... Sorry if I'm wrong xx
I got phone call on Friday 27th November I was due to be admitted on 30th and the op was supposed to be 1 Dec, no date as I am complex and need two lead surgeons one Gynae the other bowel! I suffer from extensive diverticulitis and have 2 masses on my ovaries and my bowel is tethered to my womb and endo is severe everywhere so hopefully I won't need a stoma bag but good chance, I need to have full abdomen hysterectomy and will have my ovaries removed Fallopian tubes cervix and womb as well as the two masses ovarian cysts one is 8.5 and the other is 4.3 but they are KISSING OVARIES also tethered to my womb, I als suffer from recurrent DVT and have had a stroke! It's all very stressful as I've lost my husband suddenly to cancer 29 Dec 2013 and was our wedding anniversary yesterday, we wer married 20 years ago and together 25 years! I feel like I can't move on as I'm so stressed and Ill with it all 😔
Oh no. I am so sorry to hear that. You have so much stress and heartache in your life already and the cancelled operations will just add to this. I haven't had a new date yet. Hope you have soon x
Got a call new date 18 January and op is 19 th
I've a night away in hotel and a ladies night booked for 19 February with my family I hope I'm recovered enough as its my kids Christmas present to me! I would doubt it though as its a full abdominal hysterectomy and maybe a stoma bag ..... I'm sure it's going to take ages for recovery
