Surgery got cancelled!

Behind_Hazel_Eyes profile image

I was due to have excision surgery on the NHS today but got a phonecall last night from the hospital to say my surgeon was unable to do it because he had been caught by flight delays caused by Storm Ashley. Devastated. Had my hospital bag with everything sitting ready to go and had myself mentally ready. Has anybody else gone through similar? Desperately hoping to get another date soon! Did anybody else have to wait long after their surgery was cancelled?

Sorry to hear that and it is devastating. With my second lap, I was scheduled last in the day and the previous person's operation took over 5 hours, so I was waiting all day (nil by mouth and exhausted from waking up so early to get to the hospital and the nerves) and then told at 4pm to go home. Also frustrating because of the time I had to take off work and reschedule my life (fortunately no small kids to deal with!) ... In any case, my operation was rapidly rescheduled within less than 10 days. I had to psyche myself up for the procedure for weeks and to go through the pain again and then... I hope you get yours rescheduled really quickly!

Gosh that must have been awful to be told that at the last minute! Glad you got another date soo quickly though! yes very frustrating having to reaarange everything again. I had a lot of very surprised colleagues when I arrived in work yesterday morning. I had been warning them the last few weeks that I would be off. Hope your surgery helped x

thanks, I am self-employed so had to cancel contracts during what I assumed would be my convalescence period which was annoying; having already had a lap, I knew I wouldn't able to sit comfortably for long for at least one week. At least I didn't have childcare to arrange a second time! The surgery went well but it always throws up new issues after solving the problem at hand! I hope you get a new appointment pronto and if this is your first time, please make sure you take plenty of time to rest and recover x

Yeah it was very disheartening and annoying due to sorting out work and picking up my daughter from college etc but everyone’s been understanding, thank you me 2 I’m keeping everything crossed 🫣 and have to get myself mentally prepared again

I went in for surgery and they couldn't do it due to stage 4 endometriosis. Waking up to be told they haven't done your hysterectomy, after waiting for 12 months for it, to then be told you have even more problems on top of your existing issues was really awful. They'll get you rescheduled ASAP x

That is terrible! Did they not know how bad your endo was prior to the op? I'm also stage 4 and had an MRI done. It's only becuase it does not appear to be in my bowel yet that the surgeon is willing to operate. I really hope you get sorted soon x

I was day surgery for a hysterectomy. They knew i had fibroids but not endometriosis. I had an MRI after the abandoned surgery and I would need a bowel resection which I'm not prepared to put my body through. I'm currently on zoladex.

Yeah I understand the bowel resection is amajor procedure. I cannot imagine what it was like to be told that. I really hope the zoladex is helping you x
