I was just wondering if anyone has had their NHS surgeries re-arranged that were cancelled due to COVID-19? I have been waiting since August 2019 for a diagnostic laparoscopy and was due to have it in June but now no surgeries are going ahead. I spoke to my consultants secretary who said to expect to wait another 18 months to 2 years and I really don’t want to hold out that long but seems to be no way around it

That's a bit harsh 2 years! Things are moving slowly but not that slow, I think Covid has hit us very hard and it's not the NHS or governments fault. You need to push for your Lap remember than the government has done a deal with the private sector. 👍
I feel your pain! I’ve been waiting for mine since December 2019. I had it scheduled for April 2020 but it got cancelled and I have no idea when it’s going to be rescheduled for! Just got to keep pushing for it I suppose!
I was on a list for a year and a half and my op was meant to be April. It got cancelled but I am now currently self isolating for my op in 2 weeks.
I think they are just weighing up risk factors. If your pain is getting to the point you can’t cope then tell them!!! Phone your gp to badger them too, that usually works with me.
I would note though that your whole household have to self isolate for 2 weeks. Luckily I live alone but that can be difficult for people so wanted to give a heads up!
Yes mine was due 7th April open surgery abdominal hysterectomy I'm only 29!! I'm not going in in 2 weeks we'll just over on 23rd July my consultant took it to management though to get me in xx
Ad yes everyone has to self isolate 2 weeks before surgery xx
Mine was due 30th march I'm due to have it this coming Monday and it's been moved to a private hospital however still waiting to hear from the nurse about my pre assessment. I just pray it doesnt get cancelled again .
Agree I would call and harass your consultants secretary and ask to have a call with the consultant
I was due shoulder surgery end of May and speaking to the consultant on Monday he advised that he has no dates as to when he could start. Even when he does he said he’d only be able to see a third of the patients he normally would. He also said at the pre-op you have a Covid test then have to self-isolate until the day of the surgery and also go in 48hrs beforehand to have another Covid test. It might be worth phoning your consultants secretary as different areas may be doing things differently. I live in Derbyshire.
Mine was cancelled in May but moved to a private hospital (still as an NHS patients) and I had it done on Monday. Very quick this all happened so don’t think things won’t change for you.
I think the bottom line is … do you want to catch Covid-19 ? ??
My hospital has been in touch with regard to an op I am waiting for. My understanding from their letter is that they may be concentrating on the less invasive 'backlog' of work first, and perhaps also procedures that can be done as day surgery, or where stays in the hospital are limited... All done while they monitor just exactly how much Covid is really on the wane.
This is presumably also to keep beds and surgeries free for the constant, constant toll of everyday emergencies, which are still ongoing: heart attacks, road accidents, end-of-life, etc. During lockdown I have had friends rushed to hospital with emergency needs: broken hip, life-threatening immune-reaction, terminal illness … yet they are just a fraction of the many, many people needing treatment, every day. Life-threatening injuries or accidents will still have precedence, yet meanwhile, the hospitals and powers-that-be still don't really know if Covid is due to flare up again, as it has done in Leicestershire.
Personally, I don't want to go anywhere near a hospital until the situation is much more settled and under control.
I don’t think it will be that long. Things are starting up again but will be different for each area/trust/hospital depending on their current covid status. My hysterectomy was scheduled for April and I am now isolating for 2 weeks ready for the op. It should go in order of how people were originally going to be seen with a slight delay for priority patients. As soon as the covid + patient numbers go down in your hospital they will be able to give you more info but they won’t have any idea of a timeline until then. Fingers crossed it’s not too long for you.
I had my surgery scheduled for April 2nd. It has been cancelled on short notice, i been through pre-op. They told me that they cancelled all operations from March 30th. I missed it by two days!!! ...i been in touch with secretary/nurse, but their department have not resumed operations at all. And don't know when they will, but ensured me that i shall be among first when they start. But it so frustrating . I am nearly 37 years old and we are trying for our first baby for 2.5 years. So i am already in age when my fertility is declining as time goes. The surgery should give me chance to either conceive naturally or via IVF. Even through fertility centres are open I can't persuade that route until i have my surgery. That is because of "mess" in my body impacting cervix opening + bowel involvement. I need colorectal surgeon presents at surgery ( though they hope they won't have to do bowel resection). That makes it even harder to schedule when two specialists are involved.....i bet hospital is doing surgeries already but doesn't looks like gyneacology/endometrioses centre is in their top list.
