Trouble urinating after laparoscopy

I recently found out i have endometriosis and had a laparoscopy and hystroscopy 6 days ago and I've started having difficulty urinating. My bladder feels really full but won't fully empty and it takes a while to get going. Is this common after surgery, should I be worried?

Hi there, yes it can be quite common my bladder wouldn't empty at all so I had to have it drained, I was in agony as I had 1 litre to drain off so make sure you don't get to that stage. If I was you I would contact the hospital and explain what's happening as you could end up with an infection. Sometime your bladder gets lazy after surgery.

Take care. X

I had the same problem after a lap and cystoscopy, I take oromorph for pain too and noticed its the same after that so think it could have been the combination of surgery and drugs that did it with me xx

My hospital didn't allow me to leave until i could wee. I had my op on Fri by Sat early morning they put the catheter in then took it out on sunday then i managed to go. Ring the hospital or your gp straight away because you have a failed retention.

More often than not general anaesthetics arent the cause its the catheter they place in your bladder to drain the urine in theatre that is as this ensures they can get into where they need to without a huge bladder in the way. After this the sphincter can become a little weak, keep trying to go - i found it easier in the shower (discusting i know but if it works it works) they will have let you go as you probably can wee its just taking a while but can sometimes get worse. It may also be that the endo is squeezing your urethra (where you wee from) hopefully your gp will advise you but it may be better calling the ward you were on if you are concerned x

Mr surgeon told me that urinary infections are common after a laproscopy. I would get a blood test from your GP.

He also told me to drink loads of cranberry juice.

Hope that helps.
