Panic condition: Blood sugar level > 500 mg/dL.

You can go back to oral hypoglycemic agents (diabetic pills) if and when your HbA1c level drops to <7%.

Your fasting blood sugar should be less than 100 mg/dL.

Your post-prandial blood sugar level (2 hours after taking food) should be less than 140 mg/dL.

Check your post-prandial blood sugar daily and avoid foods that cause elevated blood sugar levels.

Eat less food, more times in a day.

Stop consuming food after 6:00 pm.

Exercise (brisk walking) daily for about 30 minutes. The intensity of walking should be slow at first and increase day by day.

You should aggressively control your high blood sugar

Periodical tests to be conducted by a dibetic patient:--

A: HbA1c. HbA1c is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows

how well you are controlling your diabetes.

B: Control your high Blood pressure, if any. Normal blood pressure- <120/80 mmHg.

C: Control your blood Cholesterol: Normal cholesterol < 200 mg/dL. LDL <100 mg/dL HDL > 40 mg/dL Triglyceride < 150 mg/dL.

D: Diabetic education. Dental check-up should be done in every six months.

E: Eye examination for glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and cataract.

F: Foot examination (Diabetic neuropathy and diabetic foot ulcers)

G: Glucose monitoring. Fasting or postprandial blood sugar may be checked daily and avoid foods that elevate blood sugar.

H: Health maintenance immunization against influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia.

I: Indications for specialty care. Heart, kidney and liver should be checked periodically by concerned specialists.(Once in a year).

* Overall, the risk for death among people with diabetes is about twice that of people of similar age without diabetes.

* Adults with diabetes have heart disease death rates about 2 to 4 times higher than adults without diabetes.

* The risk for stroke is 2 to 4 times higher among people with diabetes.

HbA1c 13 & PPBS >500 my goodness! I don't know what to say. You are falling from frying pan to fire. Immediately stop fruits, sweets, bakery products, biscuits etc. Reduce fat intake. Change breakfast & dinner to Long Wheat cooked in water; eat/drink it stomach full. Lunch can be as usual but with the above restrictions. If you take liquor, stop it. If you smoke, do away with it. Test PPBS daily till it is around 160 - 170; there after test weekly till it is around 140-150.

Continue current medication also for the time being.

Do not get panic. Tension is no solution. You can cure diabetes like me in 2-3 years.

I can tell u, Main thing u have to take care is ur diet. i too had the same problem 9.2%. then seriously, started taking care of my foods. regular food, but intake very less but in different intervals with different food....like salad, soups, veggies, oats, roties, not much of rice stuff... now the check up says it is only 6.8% with in 40 days time...... u should check everyday fasting n PP n try to be in the limit of below 90 n below 140 respectively. only food control...(Keep a strict time for each food n have half stomach food ) is the best medicine n of course with all the medicines u have by ur doctor.... please keep following this slogan about food n after 30days post me ur result......am sure u will 100% succeed in bringing ur HbA1c. goood luck!!!!!!!!!!!
