Avid readers (!) of my blog will know that my ankle hurt a bit after doing my first Laura's 'speed' session on Wednesday but it wasn't too bad so I went out on Friday for my usual 30 min run, (and pushed it to get 5km in) - at which point ankle hurt a bit more on finishing but I didn't notice it whilst running.
Ankle's been a bit sore since but nothing too awful and I have been riding and walking okay, so I set off for my first long/slow run today. Aim - 35 minutes at a slow gentle trot, chatting to husband all way so can't run too fast.
Ankle was okay to start but by the end was bloody killing- worse running down hill then up, worse walking than running! Not sure what I've done, I'm guessing I may have slightly sprained it by trying to run fast off road on Wednesday, so I am now on sofa resting it whilst watching the cycling. For you budding GPs out there - it's not swollen, just sore to weight bear.
I have to ride (horse) this week as at a BIG competition on Saturday, but I'm going to not run again till its not hurting anymore - which is a shame as I absolutely really really enjoyed my run today, it was cold and snowing but once you're running you don't mind! (well at least I don't!) We planned our route so we were a bit more sheltered by trees etc on the way out and then wind at our backs on the way home and it was lovely, just felt so easy - (except painful ankle!)
I had turned off distance feedback on my phone app as I was keen to not push myself and just go steady, so I was pleased to see at the end that I had run 5km in the 35 minutes, and wasn't even out of breathe at the end! Loving my running, hope the stupid ankle recovers quickly... but maybe a week off running will help to ensure I continue to love it.
