ELATED AND GUTTED AT SAME TIME?!

Is it possible to feel both? Yes, definitely! I actually had butterflies before I went out this morning, I was so nervous about attempting Week 3! I blogged earlier about my knee, not sure what to do but thought I had to give it a go! I got as far as the last 3 minute run and had to stop after 1 minute as the pain in my knee told me that enough was enough! I finished the rest in the usual fast walk and had to get home as the route i'd taken was a decent walk away from home. I am so disappointed I didn't manage the last 2 minutes of the run as it was going so well and knew that I could if it wasn't for the knee! I like the combination of timings on this week. Will carry on with the ibuprofen, maybe an extra rest day and see how it goes! I've had both knees operated on in the past and don't want to face that again. The fact that I (ME) ran for 3 minutes is amazing so I'm trying not to feel too disappointed.

Well done you! You did complete the whole session even if 2mins was fast walking, that is minute compared to what you accomplished!! Trying to finish the run when in pain could of caused damage so you derfinately did the right thing. I hope your knee improves. I'm about to start week 2 tonight...gulp..... :)

You're So right-Thank You! It's hard to think positively when all you can see are the negatives. My knee will improve if I listen to it! Good Luck with your run tonight, if I can, you can. :-)

Hi Avril, rest that knee of yours. Walking briskly will keep up your stamina for a few days but I had the same problem when I first started running and the only thing that worked was to stop running. I took a week off but still walked on what would have been my running days. I started back at the same point I had stopped at and have never had any more trouble. Ice is good, remember to wrap your peas in a tea towel or you could get freezer burn. If its very painful Ibruprofen will also help. Good luck and I hope your back running before too long.

I'll certainly be following your advice, Thank You. However good running makes me feel at such an early stage in the programme I know I can't run on it now for however long it takes. At least I know I CAN run the 3 minutes, it's just my old bones that have stopped me in my stride today! I'll certainly walk if I can and then pick up again when it feels better.
