Having had a chesty lurgy thing for 5 (count them) weeks, I finally gave in and went to the GP last Friday and got some antibiotics. 5 days after taking them finally felt ready to try a run. Managed 20 minutes non-stop at my previous pace (which is pretty slow!). But I wasn't a wheezing, puce heap, which is what I feared.
So, even though I have been ill and poorly and non-exercising for 5 weeks, I didn't have to go back to the beginning. and I've managed to keep up the 2 mile walk to work.
Legs are a bit sorely, but nicely so. I shall doubt no more.
Phew, phew, Barney McGrew!
This shit really does work.
And really... thank you all for your encouragement and good wishes and advice - you're the shizznaz!

You are the best, Viv!!! So you think that it does work, huh???? Welcome back!!! I am glad to hear that you are feeling better!! Five weeks is a long time to be fighting the crud!!!
Gayle and I were surprised at how well things went for us after 22 days off! I am glad that you did better than you anticipated also!!! So does that mean that we will be seeing more blogs by you again??
You're back!!! I missed my buddy Viv!! So happy you are on the mend and feeling better. Double happy the run went well for you and not as bad as you feared. I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were getting on. Did you notice some of us have teamed and are starting 10K training? I hope you feel well enough in the near future, it could be a possibility if you would like to join in. I know you have already ran/walked a 10K but it would be "just like old times" to have our Viv back. Gayle
Yes, I saw the 10k training - I need to get on board - I've signed up for a 1/2 marathon at the beginning of March - don't know if I've time to train for it - but I'll give it a go.
It's Friday and I began the medication Tuesday -- this is the first time I've actually felt like getting out of bed! And the fisrt night I haven't coughed myself silly. So yes, the drugs are working. Thanks. xox
Showing your age there girl (and mine, come to that).....Cuthbert, Dibble, Grub!!
Its great to hear your voice again and know you are on the mend. Its great isnt it that we know we really can keep running even after illness and lurgy
good to hear you are feeling better Viv I had 3 weeks with it before Xmas - still trying to get back to 30 mins non-stop again but getting there. You are so inspiring!
looking forward to hearing about your 10k training, all the best Sue x
