W7R2 No music, tracker not tracking but I kept running.

When I'm doing a full run I dont start my mp3 player until I've walked for 5 minutes so I can clear the big hill on my warm up walk. Sounds pathetic but I wont set myself up for failure. Got to the base of the hill and my mp3 battery was dead. Questioned whether to walk home again or just go on without the music. I had sportstracker for the first time to time my run and I know the route from R1 so I went for it, It was really strange running without music and Laura. I could hear myself puffing and plodding.

Got to 25 minutes and stopped. My sportstracker said I'd run for 25 minutes and cleared 1.44 km. I know I'm slow but not THAT slow. Checked when I got back and it didn't start tracking distance until I was well on my way back home. It said I was running at 9.8km /hour on the steady slope it tracked over, when I was really working hard, so I was really pleased.Think GPS is poor round here so maybe sportstracker isn't for me.

Think I will stick to the music and Laura next time so I can't hear the puffing. Has anyone else tried no music?

I need the music for distraction as well as to cover up my pants and puffs - quite scary sometimes in between tracks... :-D Mind you someone said just the other day that you can hear the sounds of nature round about you so much better without music, logical really, but it wouldn't be for me. And if you run in the town it's different again.

Good luck with the rest of the programme, you haven't got long to go now! :-)

I had a similar problem to you when my music stopped near the beginning of my run. I just kept running but it wasn't the same and I had to really push myself to finish the run. I like the distraction of music and have contemplated trying an audiobook but haven't got round to it yet. Someone else blogged that they listen to musicals and I'm sure someone else suggested that every third run should be without music so we don't become dependent on it. I'm doing the stepping stones thing just now so I'm using Laura and Audiofuel music which isn't really music at all. I'm showing my age here! Best wishes for your running.

Thanks Oona and Mitts. Yes I prefer running with music and as you say it is a distraction even if I don't like the track. I will pass on the musicals as watching one would be my worst nightmare let alone running to one. Sorry to all the musical fans. Bit of Queen maybe when I graduate. just got to persuade Hubby to do me a playlist.

on gps and kilometres covered - if i use endomondo while i'm running it marks straight lines between quite big sections, while if i use endomondo to mark the route i really take it indicates about a third more distance - 4k instead of 3k. so now i'm mapping every route manually.
