Week 6 Run 1. Why was that so horrible???

My week 5 run 3 was difficult but I managed and felt good after it. Then today going back to intervals, I felt awful could barely do the first 5 minutes, I completed it all but it was very tiring and I feel really disappointed.

I had exactly the same and lots of people on here have experienced it also! Don't worry your next runs will be better!

Loads of us went through exactly the same thing! I think our legs are still tired after our 20 min epic AND then in our heads we assume reverting to intervals is gonna be easier - OH NO! This programme is all about moving on to the next challenge, so well done you for achieving that!

I hadn't thought about it as "moving on to the next challange" what a great way to think of it. Might make my run2 a bit better

I think it's partly due to settling into a pace. I know (now) that the first 5 minutes or so of any run I do are going to be grueling until I've settled into my stride and got my breathing sorted (hoping that the time to settle will gradually decrease). On W5R3 you've done this then had 15 minutes of 'nice' running after. On W6R1, back to intervals and you need to settle more than once, taking up more of the running time making it seem harder. Don't worry though, you only got one more interval run left then you'll be on the long runs.

I did this run yesterday and thought it would be a breeze after the W5R3 20 minute run but like you found it much harder than expected. Still at least the music was different.

Yeah same here. I've just finished w6 r3 today and soooo glad. Like all the other more experienced people have said, I think it's the pace thing. Stopping and starting is harder as you can't settle. I found today after 13 minutes it was almost comfortable (almost) hee good luck with the rest ;-)

Welcome to W6, musicmad. I wish I had something great to say about W6, but it is a very challenging week!! We (gdeann and I) finished that long run in W5 and thought that we owned the world...and then...W6!!!! The words of Beads are nothing short of absolutely brilliant!! I would say more, but she said it all!!!

Keep Running...YOU CAN DO THIS!!

I am having a hard week 6 too, I thought back to intervals would be easy, but am struggling. Completed Wk6r2 yesterday - and the walk in between the 2 x 10 mins was very welcome - so I guess that means all my interval runs are done.

What is being said above is making sense as during the first 5 mins yesterday I felt "all over the place" - I guess your body needs to get used to you starting the physical activity, then when you adjust you are ok and get into your stride!!

Thanks people :) It's good to know I'mnot the only one finding it difficult! Especially when I hear the last song of the podcast something about "It's easy now" I was thinking, no it certainly isn't! And Laura keep saying "this should be easy for you now" will keep ploughing through !

Yep, can definitely remember that one.... thinking I was great for completing week 5, then down to earth with a bump for week 6 run 1. It does get better though through week 6. :)

I found week six and seven so far is also horrible. Im relying on These guys to pull me through! I think it takes longer to recover than you think from the 20minute run. Maybe add an extra rest day?
