When should you attempt your first 5k challenge?

I'm due to go and visit some friends in Cardiff next weekend (so less than two weeks away!) and one of them, who is on the same stage of the C25K as me, has suggested we attempt a fun run being organised on the Sunday. I ran Week 7 run 2 yesterday, planning run 3 tomorrow. If I keep up my timing on runs, going every other day, by the time the 5k run comes along I'll be on week 9 run 3 (or possibly only run 2 if I delay any of them by a day). Is this going a bit crazy or shall I just go for it? I'm just worried that I'll try too hard to keep up with the people around me and not run at the nice slow and steady pace that I'm currently used to. Suggestions/comments please!

As its a fun run I would say go for it! It's not a race and as long as you listen to your body and react then you should be able to make it. Even if you have to walk some of it the achievement of making 5k and still having a pulse will be a tremendous achievement! Go for it! Good luck and let us know how you get on :)

I'd say go for it. If need be you can walk a little of it, as it's a fun run you should be OK. did my first 5k as my first run post graduation just to prove I could do it (took 40 mins).

Do it! I'm almost exactly where you are - just going into W8R1 tomorrow morning - and scheduled for my first 5k on the same date as you! It's taken me ages to complete the plan, so I signed up for this race quite a while ago. I'll also be hopefully doing W9R3 then! Yay!
