Week Five, Run Three

Hey everyone, I've just ran non-stop for twenty minutes 🥳

Every week, during every single run, I've thought "I can't wait til the end because I can hardly run a moment longer". First for one minute, then 90 seconds, then 3 minutes, then 5 minutes, then 8 minutes and now a huge 20 minutes ! This program really is incredible and it's true - it's only a battle with your mind.

And what's more, I did it during my working day so in effect, I got paid to do it 😄😄 (don't tell the boss)

Onwards and upwards to Week Six 🏃‍♀️

Congratulations to you mummybowles on completing run 3 of week 5, that is a milestone run for C25K ✅✅✅✅✅, onwards and upwards to week 6, be careful about the first two runs as it's back to interval walks and runs, from run 3 of week 6 to run 3 of the final week 9 you run without any walking breaks, glad that you are reporting your progress, not too many people do that, good luck with your remaining 12 remaining runs 🏃✅

Cheers Al. I feel like I must report on here after every run as a) it keeps me accountable and b) it stops me boring everyone at home about it !!

There have been many runners reporting on run 1 or 2 of week 1 and have never been heard of again, I like the fact that you have reported on every run from run 1 Don't bore everyone at home about your running, ask them to start C25K after you graduate, probably they won't but who knows.enjoy🏃✅

Well done MB .. it's a tough one mentally isn't it. Keeping it nice and slow and steady helps with the physical side but dealing with the mind shouting "STOP" is hard! Well done though you did it. 😀

Thank you ! Definitely mind over matter. You'll see I've started following you on Strava

I have .... no pressure posting your runs there 😀 but if you do I will try to remember to give you a thumbs up 😎👍

that’s the spirit you definitely give me positive inspiration to do these things myself as your two runs ahead of me. My 20 is on Friday if I crack that without stopping I’ll really feel I’ve achieved something thanks for your positivity

If you've followed the program to date, you'll be more than ready.

You can definitely do this xx

Remember to keep us posted (if it's not on Health Unlocked, did it really happen?!!!) 😂

I’ll let you know , my main thing is I keep clock watching to see how long I’ve got to go, I usually judge these runs by getting up to a set point by a certain time , if I get to those points earlier than I usually would I try to slow down but it’s not that easy running slow and when your on the pavements up and down kerbs and dodging the dog walkers seems to be a constant event thankfully I haven’t had dogs lunge at me yet but there’s time I’m. Sure !

I feel like dojng the stage 2 run today but I’ll wait till tomorrow as your supposed to

mummybowlesGraduate in reply toGentlydoesnt

Yes, they say leave a day inbetween for recovery. I count my footsteps, rather than focus on the clock. It gives me something to do and focus on. I had a black labrador run into me yesterday so yes it'll probably happen. All the best for tomorrow

Just done the second run can’t believe done it but I have although I should have had a drink first. As I went straight out the door after getting washed and my charity shop running clothes on!. I have tried drinking 30 mins before but it still is like an empty vessel with fluid sloshing when I’m running. The big one next !.

Well done. Yes it’s all in the mind. I’m stalled at the start of week 8. I have a knee strain. Waiting to see physio on Friday. Annoyingly I didn’t do it running.

mummybowles profile image
mummybowlesGraduate in reply toBaggieboy61

How frustrating. Fingers crossed your knee is much better very soon. Perhaps strap it up before your next run (when the physio gives you the ok) ? Wishing you all the best

I don’t know if paying a physiotherapist has kicked in a reaction in my brain but when I woke this morning I was practically pain free. Four hours later I have hardly had a twinge. Yesterday I really struggled. I’ll see how the next few days go. I haven’t overextended myself and I’m being cautious but I’m encouraged.

Sounds very encouraging. Take it easy and fingers crossed for you

Hope it all goes well for you, I’ve got problems with my knees so I empathise completely , I can’t get up from ground level without holding onto articles etc thankfully it doesn’t seem to affect my doing this programme fingers crossed and good luck

Terrific!!! So pleased to hear!

You are right about it being a mental hurdle...but you did it!

Look forward to hearing about Week 6...

Thanks. It's W6R1 tonight. Just hope the rain eases by this evening 🌧️

run 3 in the morning , the 20 mins. Think I’m more worried now about the actual state of the pavements to run on for 20 mins without stopping. I really am gearing my self up for this I haven’t ran for 20 mins without stopping in nearly 30 years. I just hope the conditions are favourable but it’s not looking good frost wise !.

Gentlydoesnt profile image
GentlydoesntGraduate

I’ve just done the 20 my shins were aching but the Steve cram commentary really pushed me forward , I feel really happy . I hardly slept last night thinking about this run, I live on my nerves a bit. But I’ve done it . It makes you think that it is mind over matter, as I do t mind the cold weather or the sleet, rain or snow - but thankfully the paths were clear

mummybowles profile image
mummybowlesGraduate in reply toGentlydoesnt

Yes ! You must feel amazing ! Bask in that after-run glow knowing that you did it. Remember when 1 minute was difficult? And you've now done 20. Our bodies are incredible. Very well done. You've got this 👏
