Week Five, Run One

I actually drove to my old stomping ground tonight (where I used to live) for the first run of Week Five. There's fewer inclines and I felt like I needed flat roads this evening. I also had a strong black coffee beforehand (for warmth and a 'buzz').

Not sure if it was the caffeine, the lack of hills or whether my fitness is improving overall - probably a combination of all three - but those five minutes didn't seem too bad at all.

Next run Saturday !

Sounds like you know what to do to give your motivation a kick. All those hard runs make the ones where conditions are easier feel like a breeze😁 Well done you 😁

Thank you, they certainly do - I'd better return to the inclines quickly though, else I might wimp out and go back to flat every time !

Well done MB ... I imagine the lack of incline compared to your usual was a lovely boost. It's nice to get a change of location every now and then. I am going for familiarity tomorrow 😉 - I'll look you up on Strava give you some 👍👍 too

Cheers Richard. My legs and lungs certainly appreciated the flat roads last night. I've only used Strava for one run so far. My plan is to get through these 9 weeks then start improving my stats - so I'll probably use Strava more then 🏃‍♀️⏱️

Congratulations on running 15 (FIFTEEN) minutes!

Cheers John. I've just been looking at your slow-running videos and tips. I'm definitely a fan. Less risk of injury and strains with all the same health benefits of fast running I imagine.

Certainly health benefits, but fast running is a different ball game that has inherent risks that need to be mitigated - the classic 'walk before you can run' applies - a bit mangled in our case, but certainly true!

As ever, my tip for early-week C25Kers is to focus on the total amount of running time, not the length of any individual segment. So W5R1 is 15 minutes, but W5R2 is 16 ... only 1 minute more ... and you can see where this is heading... 😎

I like your tip thanks - 20 minutes doesn't seem so daunting now

.Good to hear!

It's absolutely a mental test, not a physical one, because the body has been readied for it with every outing done to that point. The mind however... The brain is pesky so and so!
