Yay! Chuffed I managed this run today - was very hard work and really wanted to stop in the five minute runs but just slowed down instead ( great tip from the forum) and ran all 16 minutes. It really is a new me! Got a bit hot though but am still wearing lots of layers , gloves and hat - and it didn't rain either!
Week four run one done!: Yay! Chuffed I managed... - Couch to 5K
Week four run one done!
You might have to start ditching some layers as the longer runs come in otherwise you will get far too hot. It's hard when it's still chilly out but you will soon warm up. Good luck with the rest of week 4.
Yes I will try that especially as there is more running and less walking. I do get cold easily so prefer to be over not underdressed . My sports bra is very thick so it's like another layer on my top so maybe I will shed the base layer next time
Well done, definitely worth dropping the layers now , think the usual to dress as though it is 10 degrees more than it is, you soon warm up ?
Ooh I think I'd rather be too warm than too cold. But yes I will review what I wear next time! It was 6 degrees and overcast this morning and a strong wind, so I felt I needed my layers. But worried about not wearing a hat though as that keeps my earphones in place so that may be the last thing to go! ( not that I will run naked...)
That's good to hear. I finished week 3 this morning and it was good, but 5 mins sounds a stretch. I shall follow your lead and keep it veeery slow. A little achey now, but I'm blaming it on the veg patch. Well done!
Oh well done you, I found that a challenging week. Yes I was worried about the five mins but it was ok going very very slowly. The first time though Laura said I was 2.5 minutes in and I thought oh no I need to stop not do that again. Go slow. Everyone keeps saying speed comes later. I find its my breathing that's the issue.
It's the sound of my breathing that's bothering me - I'm such a loud mouth-breather it's alarming! How on earth people chat during a run is a mystery!
I sound like a steam engine. No way could I talk - it's hard enough to nod a hello if I pass someone.
Well done and good luck with the rest of week 4.
Thanks stecal. Run 2 done now, still not easy...
I'm due to start wk 4 on Monday. I'm so scared....it seems like a huge jump. I read about the speed so will go mega slow, also I go with a friend so I guess we will have to run in silence.....hard talking for 3 mins let alone 5! Well done though...you've done it and it helps us that haven't yet done it to focus.
You will do it. I found it hard but achievable and you just need to go slow. That definitely helped me. .. And remember there have already been huge jumps and you did it. I struggled with week 5 run 1 yesterday and am going to take two days rest and try it again on Monday , as that seems sensible to build up my confidence before moving on to the next run which is different and even longer....
