Hello again all, took me 4 months to complete the programme as had to repeat a few but my hip all good albeit slower than I was but can’t believe I am now able to run a 5k. I celebrated by doing a local parkrun this week, my first one in two years!felt so good. I also took part as a research participant for a study looking at people who have had joint replacements and got back to running or some form of high impact sport. It was amazing all wired up in a lab doing all sorts of exercises and they made a computer model of me. The research guy leading the study was able to tell me lots about my strength and bio mechanics from this so was great. Hopefully his research will show the benefits of running post replacement surgery (looking at knees as wells as hips) and that it doesn’t necessarily mean the end of running just because you have had a replacement. Very little research out there at the moment for people who do continue so all in all a very positive week. A huge thank you to C25K group and this forum. So supportive and much needed help and advice, lovely for people all to be helping each other. My goal is to run my old running clubs annual 5 mile event in a couple of weeks as would like to get to 10k. Not sure whether I will be able to do long distances again but considering I thought I would never run again I’m over the moon. Take care all. I may stay on and bore you with my progress from time to time. Cmon you can all do it but most of all enjoy it. Take care

Thank you on behalf of us all for taking part in that research. None of us know when we may need a replacement!! This was so interesting to read about.

Enjoy your running journey and do head over to our other forum Bridge to 10k where you will find inspiration and help as you continue your running journey. We would love future input from you too xx

That is so encouraging and answers questions I've seen others ask about running and joint replacement. Well done and keep running

What an encouraging post! Thank you!

And most of all congratulations on finishing the programme and for your parkrun.

Sound like you’ve got some plans to keep you running. What great information you must have received from the researcher! Well done to be involved in medical research.

Do keep us posted either here or in the 10K forum that AA has linked.
