Tried to run with a hip replacement......stupid I now know!

Hi everyone, I’m 52 and had a hip replacement 4 years ago. Was really up for this challenge and felt brilliant immediately after run 1. Stupidly, I didn’t do any research and the general consensus is running is not advised after a THR. So since the first run have been in great discomfort (serves me right!). Determined not to be defeated I tentatively tried run 2 today - ouch! So walked as fast as I could for the remainder of the session. However, I wasn’t really breathless by the end. Has anyone any experience of my situation or ideas how I can maximise and modify my runs? Backpacks? weights? I want to complete this somehow - feeling frustrated and a bit let down at the moment. Thank you x

I don't know much about hip replacements... but... I would suggest you do your own research, chat to your GP and for now complete the programme with a combination of fast and slow walking to get your general fitness and cardiovascular health up.

Check out this article runnersworld.com/health-inj...

Also the guide to the programme

I'm sure there may be some other members along shortly with replacement hips/knees too 👍🏻😁

I thought you might find this interesting. I don’t know much , I suspect the Japanese run style might work for you and maybe use a treadmill.

Hi - that article was really informative - thank you so much! I will also do some research into the Japanese run style. Thanks again!

Perhaps a chat to your GP for guidance? You don’t want to do any irreparable damage....

Yes - that would be the sensible thing to do! Thank you,

We would always recommend that someone in your situation consult your GP or consultant before starting C25K.

The guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... gives advice on pacing and minimising impact, which would probably be crucial for you, if you are going to continue.

Take care.

Look up Chi Running & chat to your GP about it. In the meantime keep up the walking🚶‍♀️ 💐
