The penultimate run of week 9 done!

Whooop! I managed the penultimate run of week 9 even picked a tiny bit of pace in the run down hill towards the end. Clearly need some autumnal running clothes now- any suggestions for kit most welcome. What do I do next? How do I keep running in the autumn and winter safely? I think I’m a runner now?

yay!!! You are def a runner now…especially because you’re already thinking of autumn/winter kit!!! We’re all different, some stick to shorts until I gets really cold (like me) some start with a jacket and end up taking it off after 5 mins (like me 🤣) ..best thing to do is layer up and take a layer off when you get too hot..until you know how much you can bear!!

Enjoy your graduation run 🥳🥳

Well done!

As far as running kit goes, I'd say that visibility, both seeing and being seen, is top priority for anyone running outside. Reflective strips or armbands, bright clothing (right through from any headgear to socks!) hi-viz vest, flashing lights, head or chest torch... how you do it is up to you.

You'll probably want long sleeves and leggings rather than a vest or shorts, and to buy clothes that you can layer, and add or remove during a run. I detest being too warm so I rarely bother with hat or gloves unless it's around freezing or there's a really chill wind, and although I have running jackets I almost never wear them.

Where you buy depends on your budget - I'm a cheapskate so get most of my stuff in sales (I stocked up on Proviz last year) or on Vinted, or from Lidl (got really excellent softshell winter running leggings there) or Decathlon.

Happy shopping!

I think we’ve got a fair bit of matching kit!! I love my provjz t-shirts. I wore one this evening on my run. I absolutely love a run in the dark with a head torch and fluoro yellow thin jacket (always round my waist like Mummycav !!). Best bargain ever-£5 karrimor reduced in Sports Direct and I use it so much.

StringTheory you’ve been a runner for a while..,your head needs to catch up with your legs. My standard winter kit is a long sleeved t shirt with a shorts sleeved one on top if it’s particularly cold, maybe a thin jacket if it’s windy. I’m always hot rather than cold though and it takes a bit of experimentation to get it right. Jackets with zipped pockets are great for starting off wearing gloves/buff/hat, taking them off and then putting them back in for a cool down walk where you can get chilly very quickly, especially if it’s wet/windy. It’s useful to have two pairs of trainers in winter so one can dry while you’re wearing the other,

Ronhill core are my favourites-they’re light and thin. I’ve got three! The proviz ones are really nice too-again not thick and sweaty but slightly more silky

Really well done...so close...

I'm so pleased to be thinking of autumn and winter kit, as well. Who is this person??

Look forward to the suggestions.

One of the things I've noticed is that running regularly outdoors makes you notice the weather more. Autumn is definitely on it's way!
